Since the launch of the PS5 four years ago, PlayStation has been working hard to evolve its entertainment system and offer players the experience they expect from Sony’s platform. For this reason, they have revealed the main features of the ‘PlayStation 5 Pro‘, a new hardware that the company itself defines as the most advanced and innovative hardware to date.
Better and faster GPU
Taking all this into account, Sony assures that the new platform will run high fidelity graphics with smooth frame rates at 60 FPS. Likewise, it features an improved GPU with 67% more computing units and 28% faster memory than the current PS5 console. Overall, this allows up to 45% faster rendering for games, making the experience much smoother.
The same happens in the ray tracing plot, which has added an even more powerful component that provides more dynamic reflection and refraction of light. This allows rays to be projected at twice and sometimes triple the speed of the current PS5 console. For his part, play station Spectral Super Resolution (AI-powered upscaling) will provide gamers with super-sharp visuals by adding exceptional amounts of details as well as higher frame rates.

Other improvements included in the PS5 Pro will be Game Boost, which can be applied to over 8,500 backwards compatible PS4 games that can be played on the PS5 Pro. This feature can stabilize or improve the performance of compatible PS4 and PS5 games. Improved Image Quality for PS4 Games is also available to improve the resolution in select PS4 games. The PS5 Pro will launch with the latest wireless technology, Wi-Fi 7, in regions that support this standard. VRR and 8K games are also supported.
Free advanced updates
Similarly, PS5 Pro technology has been confirmed and many games will be patched with free software updates to take advantage of the features. These games can be identified with a label PS5 Pro Upgrade under its title. Some of the games that are expected to be successful are ‘Alan Wake 2’, ‘Assassin’s Creed: Shadows’, Demon’s Souls, Dragon’s Dogma 2, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Gran Turismo 7, Hogwarts Legacy, Horizon Forbidden West, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, The Crew Motorfest, The First Descendant, The Last of Us Part II Remastered and more.
Regarding appearance, they confirm the same size as the original PS5, while it has been announced that players will be able to add an Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc drive or change the console cover when available. The PS5 Pro fits perfectly into the PS5 family of products and is compatible with all currently available PS5 accessories, including PlayStation VR2, PlayStation Portal, DualSense Edge, Access Controller, Pulse Elite and Pulse Explore.

The console will be available on November 7, 2024 for €799.99 and will include a 2TB SSD, DualSense wireless controller, and a copy of Astro’s Playroom pre-installed on each unit. The PS5 Pro will be available as a discless console with the option to purchase the drive separately.
