War metaphors often find their way into the language of corporate culture, whether in meetings, presentations or internal communications. Words such as “battle plan”, “defend”, “fight” or “winning strategy” are used to describe the competition. These metaphors can influence employees’ attitudes toward their work and their team by creating an atmosphere of competition and conflict.

The way to fight through language – it doesn’t have to be like this
The corporate culture or team mood automatically becomes more aggressive and hostile towards other teams. This creates or exacerbates conflict, shapes silo thinking and puts employees in permanent “fighting mode”.
This doesn’t have to be the case, and it’s worth creating awareness of the metaphors used – because language constructs reality. Friederike Sternberg will deliver a lecture on the topic at the conference B.Ed CON 2024.Eberhard Wolff and you talk about the lecture in this stream from Software-Architectur.tv.

Lisa Moritz is not doing any sketchnotes this time. The live stream of the show is available here and on YouTube:

Software-Architektur.tv is a videocast by Eberhard Wolff, blogger and podcaster at iX and renowned software architect who works as Head of Architecture at SWAGLab. Since June 2020, more than 200 episodes have been created that shed light on various areas of software architecture – sometimes with guests, sometimes with Wolff solo. For two years now, iX (heise developer) has been integrating episodes streamed via YouTube into the online channel so that viewers can follow video casts from Heise media.
