Roku also shows advertisements before coming to homescreen

Roku clearly used a particularly aggressive way of advertising: Manufacturers of streaming sticks and smart TV surfaces play a commercial play for some users, before they also receive homescreen. In practice, this means that you have to watch a commercial as soon as you turn on the TV and before you can do something else in the shrine surface.

Technic Magazine Ars Technica User reports have been collected on reddit and community forums. There are different statements about whether commercial – a trailer for the film “Moana 2” in many cases can be abandoned. Some users write that the display cannot be abandoned, others get a button to close the spot.

So far, Roku has not commented on the incident. Therefore it is not clear whether advertisements of homescreen were played worldwide and whether it is a test or a long strategy.

The Roku’s aggressive advertising strategy is an attempt to keep the device low to maintain the competitive hardware in the market. The US company saw a patent application for a technology last year, and advertisements also feed on HDMI plays.

If you connect an external player with television through HDMI, it can also show television advertisement. To find a suitable slot for a commercial, Roku will use HDMI CEC. If a brake command is sent, it can identify Ruku. Alternatively, the Roku technique can analyze the video signal directly to identify a brake symbol.

In addition, Roku wants to show specifically targeted advertising: for example, an advertisement for a new console can be displayed if the user is with a little old console on television. So far, no case is known in which Ruku uses such technology.
