Red Hat: Openshift brings updates for virtue and bare metal support

US software manufacturer Red Hat has released Openshift in version 4.18. The hybrid cloud platform is now based on Kuberanets 1.31 and CRI-O 1.31 and supports other public cloud providers with Google and Oracle. Innovations include virtual machines as well as networks and administrative work for related memory migration. Login is also a new function to store information and sensitive data.

In Openshift 4.18, Custom Network (UDN) is now available to all users. You can assign virtual machines at a stable IP address in your lifetime. In addition, your own network segment can be set with UDN, in which container pods or virtual machines can be accessed as primary or secondary networks. Using a primary layer 2 pod network, it enables live migration of virtual machines.

The migration toolkit of the Openshift Virtue Virtualization supports the transfer of data between the storage system and the classrooms in the new version. Users can select the block stores allocated from examples that are bound to a storage class and migrate in the second class. Such a step is also possible during the operation. Live storage migration of virtual machines is currently a technical preview.

Openshift wants to make VMWARE easier

Openshift applications managed by customers receive additional bare metal support with updates. For direct hardware access in Google Cloud, the hybrid cloud platform is now running on C3 machines. On C4-, C4A and N4 machines, it is possible to use Openshift for all-pest workloads such as databases and web servers.

The red hat offers two provision options for bare metal and virtual machines for the use of openshifts in Oracle Cloud. Assisted installer allows administrators a network provision, while with agent-based installers, restricted provisions through the network are possible. For memory management in bare metal operations, Openshift has integration of cloud controller manager and container storage interfaces.

For the implementation of on-radius in customer-specific data centers, Openshift is now available in Oracle Services Compute Cloud@Customer and Private Cloud Equipment. In order to operate the customer administration cluster in the public cloud environment, openshift virtue with AWS now also runs in Oracle Cloud.

Openshift 4.18 RHEL supports 8.8 and later versions that appear to the end of the support of the Openshift version.
