The Scrum Guide already clearly states that Scrum Masters should support their Product Owners in certain issues. The product personnel have therefore once again invited Alexander Kilberg from “Paragraph Eins” as a proven expert for the Scrum Master role. He has been in the agile scene for over 15 years and is a very committed member of the agile community, especially in the Rhineland. He has been with the Cologne Scrum Table almost from day one and founded Regular Agile Cologne as an important Agile conference together with others ten years ago.

How (well) do Scrum Masters support their Product Owners?
Product Activist Tim Klein first discusses with Alexander Kilberg how he understands the responsibility of Scrum Masters and what further training they receive in his company – and of course also how a Scrum Master can enter Product Owner topics. His assessment of how well or intensively Scrum Masters support their Product Owners these days is exciting. What does a Scrum Master need to know to be able to provide valuable methodological support and proper coaching?
The conversation also does not deal with common problems: what if the Product Owner does not want to receive help at all and in fact the Scrum Master does not have proper access to the Product Owner? The problem can also go the other way round: the Product Owner “pulls” the Scrum Master into content and operational work and neglects his actual role.
The episode also provides practical tips on how Scrum Masters can gain relevant knowledge and stay on the same level.
