“Prison Architect 2”: Paradox postpones the tycoon game indefinitely

The future of another Paradox game seems to be in limbo: Tycoon game “Prison Architect 2” will not hit the market in September as planned, Paradox has announced. Instead, the Swedish publisher wants to use the coming months to test and improve the game’s quality.

Writes Paradox in a forum entry. “Prison Architect 2” has been postponed several times before and even changed development studios. This time, Paradox does not want to give a new release date – a sign that development may be facing real problems.

However, Paradox insists that development will not be stopped – according to the forum entry, it is still planned to eventually bring “Prison Architect 2” to market. Those who pre-order will get their money back if they wish. Performance and game content are lacking, Paradox writes.

“This decision is in line with our commitment to review and improve the quality of our published content. We believe delaying ‘Prison Architect 2’ is the best path forward for the game and gives us more time to deliver a high-quality experience,” writes Paradox in a forum entry.

The publisher is thus confirming the change in strategy that has been observed after the technically flawed release of “Cities Skylines 2”: Paradox clearly wants to focus more on bringing the game to market in good condition in the future – or even abandon it altogether.

Paradox recently postponed the console release of “Cities Skylines 2” indefinitely. DLC for “Cities Skylines 2” is also currently on hold while the main game is being improved. Paradox also completely scrapped “Sims” competitor “Life by You” due to quality concerns.

The development of “Prison Architect 2” has long been turbulent. Part 1 is a popular indie game by Introversion Software that was released in 2015. Paradox acquired the rights to the game in 2019 and first hired studio Double Eleven to develop the successor. In May, Paradox announced that Double Eleven would no longer work on the game. Instead, development will continue by Brazilian studio Kokku, which previously supported Double Eleven.
