‘Planet Coaster 2’ announced with water ride and first-person perspective

“Planet Coaster” is getting a successor: The popular theme park simulation will be continued with “Planet Coaster 2” in autumn 2024, developer Frontier announced. The big new feature is water rides. Unlike in Part 1, players can also build in and around water.

Other than that, “Planet Coaster 2” seems to be mainly based on the strengths of the first part. Other innovations include the first-person perspective in which you can move around the entire park. In part 1 you could only experience the roller coasters from a first-person perspective, but you could not move around freely.

Speaking of getting around: So far, Frontier has not been able to implement road building in its games in a very convincing way, neither in “Planet Coaster”, nor in “Planet Zoo” or “Jurassic Park”. For part 2 of “Planet Coaster”, the development studio promises progress in road building. For the first time, players can place plazas directly in the world instead of having to painstakingly connect them with separate paths.

Frontier also promises modified construction tools that will make it easier to create tracks and buildings. “Planet Coaster” is particularly known for this: In addition to the economic simulation, the game is a creative construction kit in which you can place each stone and each construction kit yourself if you want. If you don’t want to build yourself, you can also download other people’s creations from the Steam Workshop in Part 2.

Frontier is also promising some new features on the management side, including new heatmaps. In Part 2 you’ll also need to pay attention to the sun’s rays and provide shade and sunscreen to your guests.

“Planet Coaster 2” will be released in autumn 2024 for PC (Steam and Epic Games Store), Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5.
