Projectors are a great thing for home cinema fans and anyone who wants to enjoy movies, series or sports on the big screen. But projectors often come at a price. Not so with the BlitzWolf BW-V8. With dimensions of 298 × 110 × 218 mm, the BlitzWolf BW-V8 is quite compact for a projector with an integrated power supply. The weight is 1.24 kg. BlitzWolf includes a simple rubber lens cover. It protects the sensitive optics from dust and scratches when the projector is not in use. Unfortunately, many manufacturers omit this useful accessory.

The housing of the BW-V8 is primarily made of white plastic. The top is dark gray and, despite being made of plastic, looks like brushed metal. This adds to the look and makes the projector more valuable.

The workmanship is fine for the price range. There are four rubberized feet on the bottom for a secure stand. An adjustment screw allows you to adjust the vertical projection angle. There is also a tripod thread for mounting the BW-V8 on a tripod if necessary.

The BW-V8 is an LED projector with manual focusing. Many competitors in the slightly higher price segment already offer autofocus, such as the very good Wanbo X5 (test report). However, manual focusing works well and accurately with the BlitzWolf.

A plus point is the optical vertical keystone correction of ±15 degrees. This allows the image to be straightened at oblique projection angles. It is controlled via a slide switch at the top. It also worked reliably in testing.

Unfortunately, the BlitzWolf doesn’t have a USB-C port. We would have been surprised, given the projector’s low purchase price. The included infrared remote control is very simple and doesn’t light up. Batteries are not included. However, it’s sufficient for basic operation. Alternatively, there are six buttons on the projector.

The BW-V8 offers a Full HD resolution of 1920 × 1080 pixels. The manufacturer specifies 280 ANSI lumens as brightness. Our impression in the test: The image is really nice and clear, high contrast and colorful.

To put the brightness into perspective: 280 ANSI lumens are sufficient for dark home cinema rooms. A customized Android is used as the operating system. One advantage: the mouse and keyboard control the projector if desired. The Android interface responds instantly and there is hardly any delay.

Popular streaming apps such as Netflix, YouTube, Prime Video, Disney+ and Dazen are pre-installed. However, not all apps work perfectly: Netflix can be logged in, but only works when a mouse is connected – not via the remote control. YouTube, on the other hand, runs smoothly. Amazon Prime Video refuses to register altogether.

The integrated app store is very limited. For example, the Apple TV+ app is missing. We were unable to install other available applications such as ARD Tagesschau and ARD Mediathek.

On the software side, the BW-V8 offers hardly any options for image adjustments. We often wish there were more setting options, especially with cheaper projectors.

The projector comes equipped with a 5-watt speaker. It gets pretty loud, but doesn’t offer any bass. It’s fine for occasional TV viewing, but we recommend external speakers for a true home cinema experience. These can be connected wirelessly via Bluetooth. The fan noise is less pleasant. It can be heard clearly and can be annoying in quiet film fragments. Here, competitors such as the Wanbo T2R Max (test report) show that it can be even quieter.
