Off-road e-scooter Isinwheel T4 in the test: full suspension and 1000 W motor for 699 euros

E-scooters continue to evolve. In addition to the classic models for the city, there are increasingly affordable models available that also feel comfortable on paved roads. A good example of this is our test winner in the off-road e-scooter category, the excellent Joier Y8-S (test report). In addition to very good suspension on both wheels, it also features a huge 1248 watt-hour battery, a solid folding mechanism and a good price-performance ratio.

It now competes with the Isinwheel T4. It should offer good suspension and support too 699 euros The cost from the manufacturer is slightly lower. However, the Isinwheel T4 also comes with a significantly smaller 600 watt-hour battery. Is it worth buying an off-road e-scooter with street approval? This is what our test shows.

  • Full suspension with soft response
  • Thick 10-inch pneumatic tires with deep tread
  • Powerful 1000 Watt Motor (Peak)
  • Blinker
  • Wide running board, sturdy workmanship
  • Compact folding dimensions
  • Max load 150kg
  • IP54 protection class against water
  • Road Approval (ABE)
  • 699 euros on isinwheel

Immediately after unpacking, the Isinwheel T4 is completely ready to drive. This is unusual, as e-scooters usually have to be assembled with just a few screws. This is made possible by a well-thought-out folding mechanism, which also allows for the installation of handlebar grips. This means it fits perfectly into the shipping box.

When folded, the e-scooter is only 25 centimeters wide, making it interesting for those who want to carry it on public transport or in a small trunk. However, the safety lever to fold the handlebar works a bit stiffly. Strength is needed here. It can be folded with little effort after a few uses. When folded, the 24 kg e-scooter can be easily lifted using the handlebar.

Visually, the Isinwheel T4 stands out thanks to its extra wide and thick tires with deep tread. In addition, the suspension is visible at the ends of the front and rear fenders, which look solid and stable. The color of the e-scooter is a light matte black, interrupted only by some dark red on the handlebars, safety lever and rear suspension.

Overall, the workmanship of the Isinwheel T4 looks good. Only the slight wobble of the handlebar, which is caused on the one hand by its height adjustability (between 100 cm and 130 cm) and on the other hand by the suspension, disturbs the otherwise very strong effect somewhat. We already know this wobble from other full-suspension e-scooters such as the Joyer Y8-S. The additional height adjustability of the handlebar leads to wild cable management behind the handlebar. This cable chaos is reduced when the handlebars are fully extended.

The sensitive rear mudguard is protected by a metal plate. For example, it has suitable recesses for attaching a lock. Learn more in our guide to bicycle locks for e-bikes and e-scooters: smart, with app, alarm and GPS. With a maximum payload of 150 kg, the Isinwheel T4 is one of the e-scooters with the highest load capacity. It is also protected against water splashes according to IP54. During the test we drove through deep puddles of water. Our feet got a little wet despite the front and rear mudguards. However, the mudguards kept most of the water out – a little wet feet during such maneuvers is normal.

The handlebar grips are soft and comfortable, although not ergonomically shaped. In the middle of the handlebar is a large, easy-to-read colour display. It provides information on the selected support level, the remaining battery capacity, the current speed as well as daily kilometres and total kilometres driven. Next to it is a control unit with five buttons, one of which has no function. Another button switches between displaying kilometres and miles. This feature is rarely used in everyday life; no dedicated button would be necessary here.

The lighting is connected to the electrical circuit. The front light is bright enough and is adjustable in height. However, it sits quite low on the handlebar, which affects visibility. The higher the better. The rear light shines a little far and can blind traffic behind. Unfortunately, the rear light does not light up brighter when braking – this would be an added safety benefit. There is side lighting next to the running boards, but it was deactivated for the German market so that the Isinwheel T4 could receive road approval (ABE).

A welcome additional feature of the Isinwheel T4 are the indicators attached to the ends of the handlebars, which are activated via a toggle button. The turn signal does not turn off automatically, so the driver must be careful not to forget to turn it off.

Due to very good ergonomics, the Isinwheel T4 is comfortable to ride even on long journeys. Comfortable handles and handlebars, which can be optimally adjusted due to the height adjustment, contribute significantly to this.

The motor located in the rear wheel has a rated power of 500 and a maximum power of 1000 watts. Unfortunately, the manufacturer does not provide any information about Newton meters. Nevertheless, the engine proves to be powerful in the test. After a short delay after pressing the thumb grip, the motor quickly releases its full torque and quickly accelerates the e-scooter to the top speed of 20 km/h shown on the display at the highest support level. Even the fast trip shows only 20.0 km/h. In our GPS measurements, the Isinwheel T4 achieves a maximum of 19 km/h. This is a shame, because according to the law, 20 km/h plus tolerance, i.e. up to 22 km/h, would be allowed for e-scooters.

The mechanical disc brakes installed on the front and rear wheels worked really well in the test. An electric brake is also integrated, which gets activated every time the brake is applied. Nevertheless, the e-scooter can also be braked very sensitively. When you brake hard, the T4 stops very quickly.

The Isinwheel T4 is right in its element off-road and off-road. This is where the full suspension shows its strength. Although it sometimes feels a little tight on asphalt, it is absolutely perfect on off-road terrain. The wide 10-inch pneumatic tires with thick tread also really penetrate soft ground and provide a safe driving experience even when driving fast over hill and dale. The Isinwheel T4 easily overcomes field paths, forest trails and muddy sections. Riding on paved roads is really fun with this e-scooter!

The battery capacity is 600 watt hours (Wh). This is good for an off-road e-scooter in this price range, but it doesn’t come close to the capacity of the Joier Y8-S (test report) with a huge capacity of 1248 Wh. Isinwheel advertises the T4 as having a range of up to 70 kilometers. However, this value can only be achieved under absolutely ideal conditions. Factors such as the driver’s weight, ambient temperature, ground conditions, tire pressure, individual driving style and topography are decisive for the actual range. In the test, we traveled about 25 to 30 kilometers on a single battery charge under realistic driving conditions. Overall, this is a good value that should be sufficient for most inner-city distances and even short off-road trips. The Isinwheel T4 is currently priced at $15 in the manufacturer’s online shop 699 euros. This makes it an affordable full-suspension e-scooter that is street legal. Overall, the price-performance ratio of the Isinwheel T4 can be described as good considering its features and performance.

These are the cheapest e-scooters with full suspension from our price comparison:

The Isinwheel T4 is a successful off-road e-scooter that also performs well in the city. It boasts effective full suspension, grippy tires, a powerful engine, good brakes and an indicator. In addition, it has a well-thought-out folding mechanism, which impresses with its particularly narrow folding dimensions. The high maximum payload is also a great advantage.

Overall, the workmanship is fine, even if the handlebar wobbles a bit. There is a point deduction for the comparatively small battery. Still, the feature package of the Isinwheel T4 is more than decent. It is a versatile companion for the city, country and off-road.
