Telefonica is changing its IPTV offering: unlike the previous offering, the new O2 TV does not include Waipu.tv. O2 TV offers access to 130 channels in HD quality and can be connected to the US streaming service Netflix.

O2 TV has existed since 2019. However, it was simply a branded version of the IPTV service Waipu.tv, which was cheaper than the standard Waipu offer for O2 customers. The new O2 TV stands on its own two feet and is intended to replace the previous O2 TV. But nothing will change for existing customers: Telefonica announced that they can remain on their current tariffs “until further notice”.
Base version of 1.0.0 O2 TV It costs 7 euros per month. Anyone who would like to use the offer in the EU outside Germany will have to pay 10 euros per month. More expensive variants of the tariff bundle O2’s IPTV offer with Netflix, but are tied to a 12-month contract period. The full O2 TV package comes with a Netflix Premium subscription and costs 25 euros per month – five euros per month more than a standalone Netflix subscription.
For O2 customers only
The problem: O2 TV can only be booked by customers who already have a landline or mobile phone contract with O2. This clearly differentiates Telefonica’s offer from the competition. Telecom (Magenta TV) and Vodafone (Giga TV) also offer their own offers for users who are not subscribers to their own tariffs.
“With the loss of the extra cost privilege for cable television, millions of households are looking for an attractive alternative,” says Telefonica manager Markus von Bohlen. “The new offer is also interesting for all other customers who want entertainment and Internet access from a single source.”
O2 TV offers the option to pause and restart programmes. 100 hours of content can be recorded. Up to four people can watch TV at the same time – on smart TVs at home and on smartphones and laptops on the go. Telefonica promises you can create up to five user profiles per account. There should also be the option to rent content such as blockbuster films from the video store.
