Samsung Display’s two new QD-OLED panels bring a new wave of gaming monitors. The first panel brings 3840 × 2160 pixels (Ultra HD, 4K) to less than 30 inches for the first time in the OLED world. With 26.5 inches, pixel density increases to 166 pixels per inch (ppi) – 19 percent more than the previous 31.5-inch model.

The higher pixel density due to the triangular subpixel arrangement should also help with color fringes: the smaller the pixels, the finer the color fringes – until, depending on subjective perception, they can no longer be visible.
The second panel is also 26.5 inches in size and has 2560 × 1440 pixels (WQHD, 111 ppi), but displays 500 rather than 240 images per second, as is typical for OLED, with response times being a shorter 0.03 milliseconds. This means that the monitors in question are probably meant for gamers who play fast shooters.
Asus, MSI and Samsung monitors
till now Samsung onlyBut asus too And MSI monitors announced with both panel typesSo far, only the latter two companies, which provide similar details, have provided more precise specifications. At least the 4K models ROG Swift OLED PG27UCDM and MPG 272URX finally have a DisplayPort 2.1 connection that transmits 80 Gbit/s and thus transmits the video signal without loss.
500Hz models ROG Strix OLED

There is no notable move in brightness at the moment. 4K models stay at 250 candela per square meter (cd/m²) across the entire panel. In HDR mode True Black 400, this increases to a maximum of 450 cd/m² at 10 percent screen burn – even 1000 cd/m² in small areas in the brightest HDR mode. Here it depends on the coordination how well it works and whether the image looks unbalanced.
Apparently none of the announced models have fans for panel cooling. Asus and MSI advertise AMD FreeSync Premium Pro and G-Sync compatible certification from Nvidia. So graphics cards can dynamically specify refresh rates.
Smart Monitor with Tizen
Samsung is now launching its first smart monitor with QD-OLED technology: the M9 (M90SF) uses the previous 31.5-inch panel with 4K resolution and integrates an ARM processor. Samsung’s Tizen operating system runs on the display without a connected computer, including streaming apps like Netflix.
The manufacturers have not yet announced any price or availability date. More details can be found at next week’s CES 2025 electronics trade fair.
