YouTube wants to offer Premium users an AI function that can compile personalized playlists for YouTube Music on command. A spokesperson confirmed this to technology magazine The Verge. The feature should initially be available in the United States.

You should also be able to click on predefined categories. Apart from YouTube Music, Spotify is also testing a similar function. The Swede’s AI feature responds to text commands like “an indie folk playlist that touches my mind” or “a playlist that makes me feel like the main character.”

According to The Verge, YouTube is currently experimenting with additional AI functions. This includes Lyrics Search by Hum, which has been announced for some time and is now being rolled out across devices: users can hum into their microphone to find a relevant song. Songs playing in the background can also be identified using the feature, reminiscent of Shazam, and can be searched directly on YouTube Music.
Both features are not available in Germany at the moment and there is no release date yet. It is also unclear whether the AI-generated playlists will be available only to users with a Premium subscription in the future. YouTube Music Premium is one of the benefits of the YouTube Premium subscription, which otherwise offers ad-free video streams and the ability to download videos.
Google last raised the price of its YouTube Premium subscription last November. Since then, individuals have to pay 13 euros instead of the previous 12 euros. Google also adds quite a bit to the family subscription, which can be shared with up to five people. Here you have to pay 24 euros instead of 18 euros as before.
