Mobile monitor Minisforum MSSA156 in the test: high quality, with touchscreen and WQHD

Minisforum is a manufacturer primarily known for its mini PCs (best list). We have already tested four of these models, all of which have impressed with their good workmanship and good features at a moderate price. As there, the company’s first portable monitor does not disappoint: Miniforum MSSA156. This WQHD screen is currently offered only under this 219 euros A really good overall package. This test report shows whether the monitor is also reliable in practice.

We like the workmanship of the Minisforum MSSA156. As soon as we opened it, we noticed the high-quality design of the edges, which are rounded and made of metal. At 4 mm, the frame is quite thin and the edges of the screen next to the display are pleasantly narrow, which gives the MSSA156 an attractive appearance. The convenient monitor comes in a stylish, black artificial leather case, which can also be used for setting due to magnetic adhesion.

The 15.6-inch screen offers a crisp 2K resolution (WQHD: 2560 × 1440p) as well as a strong 144 Hz refresh rate, and coverage of the high-quality DCI-P3 colour space is 100 percent. It also supports touch input. The IPS display is colourful and was extremely bright in testing, allowing us to see well even in bright light despite the reflective glossy surface. The brightness of our test device is around 290 cd/m². However, this monitor is also less suitable for outdoor use; values above 400 cd/m² are required here.

Connection to a laptop, PC or smartphone is via USB-C or mini-HDMI, with the corresponding cables included.

The price of the Minisforum MSSA156 is currently lower than the manufacturer’s online shop 219 euros. The usual price is 259 euros. Below we show other mobile monitors above ours price comparison,

We loved the Minisforum MSSA156 from the first moment. Nice, attractive, slim case and high-quality workmanship. The vibe is maintained with good colors. In addition, the screen is really fast at 144 Hz, which makes work even more pleasant. Entries can also be made via touch, although this results in many annoying fingerprints on the glossy display. Brightness is solid at just under 300 cd/m², but too low for outdoors. The included magnetic protective case is a welcome addition.

It wins our top 10 mobile monitors test, for which the overall package at a fair price is important to us. This mainly includes high-end equipment.
