Missing link: Digital Signal Box in Norway – A model for Germany?

When it comes to digitization of rail, Norway wants to be at the forefront. With the dynamics of Siemens, the ban and the Norwegian Railway wants to switch the entire rail network on a modern platform and, the entire rail network responsible for the infrastructure. Light signals should be disappeared and replaced by electronically transmitted signals. The entire train also applies to the safety system. On the invitation to the ban nor the semence mobility, hes online was able to see the system that has been in use for more than 100 days.

What is missing: Technology rapidly in the world, often time to sort many news and backgrounds. In the weekend we want to take them, follow the side paths away from the present, try different approaches and make them audio.

The relevant brief names are ETC ETC – European Train Control System – and ERTMS – European Railway Traffic Management System. The latter belongs to ETC, but also has a GSM-R for train radio and also a system for complete management.

Norway’s plan for modernization is a huge IT project which includes almost the entire country. Why almost? Because part of the Norwegian railway network can only be reached from Sweden and therefore it is a little more independently viewed. We leave the railway line between Swedish Kiruna and Norwegian Narvik in the north of the country. Siemens also does not show this part in its graphics, although the ban nor naturally takes into account the nervous.

So it is about the network north side of the large railway, Oslo, Bergon and Stavanger as well as the North of the Arctic Circle of the Northern Hemisphere. The network is clear. Overall, the dynamics of the semence should be equipped with 4,169 root kilometers with ERTM/ETC level 2 baseline 3.6. Light signs then disappear and are displayed on the monitor of trains. There are only 337 km of two tracks.

A first route has been in operation from November 2024. Between the ROA and Gojovic to the north of Oslo, on the part of Gojovicabanan, the ETCS Level 2 Baseline 3.6 is already in operation.
