In “Doom: The Dark Ages”, Doom Guy ends up in a fictional version of the Middle Ages. The shooter follows “Doom Eternal”, which hit the market in 2020 as the successor to “Doom” (2016). “The Dark Ages” aims to tell the origin story of the Doom Slayer.
Melee combat with chainsaw shield
The new “Doom” game will continue the gameplay tradition of the previous two modern installments: brutal shooter action is once again the focus. Overall, the game should play slightly less dynamically than its two predecessors, but Medieval Doom Guy should feel even more robust, the developers explain: “a tank instead of a fighter jet”.
So a chainsaw shield replaces a chainsaw. You can not only attack, but you can also block enemy attacks and counter-attack. The slope is also used for transportation. Doom Guy also gets melee weapons to combat the imaginary creatures. The video prominently features a morning star, an electrified bracer and a mace.

Despite the medieval setting, the Doom Slayer doesn’t have to do without a shotgun or the like. In between, players can also get involved in a conspiracy to cause chaos among hellish demons. And: There is also a mechanical dragon waiting to be flown in some sections of the story. Even underwater parts can be seen in the video. Players can also unlock additional abilities as the game progresses.
“Doom: The Dark Ages” will go on sale May 15 for Xbox Series X/S, PC and PlayStation 5. Soon after release, the shooter will become part of the Game Pass game subscription.
