LG buys smart home platform Homi

LG Electronics (LG) has announced that it has acquired 80 percent of the shares in Athome, a company based in Enschede, the Netherlands. Athome is best known for its smart home hub “Homie”, the Pro version of which claims to connect to over 50,000 devices and supports various connection methods such as WiFi, Bluetooth, Z-Wave, Matter and Thread.

This open orientation clearly made Athome interesting for LG: according to its own information, this purchase was a strategic move aimed at improving LG’s connectivity in the open smart home ecosystem.
