He gave the platform – formerly known as Twitter – a five-day deadline to submit documents to appoint lawyer Rachel Vila Nova Conceição as X’s legal representative in Brazil.
Court demands power of attorney for lawyer
Among other things, the judge demanded power of attorney from the lawyer. Moraes ordered the online service to be shut down at the end of August.

X first allowed the court-imposed deadline for appointing a legal representative to pass. Then he was threatened with a daily fine.
Musk closed the offices in mid-August
The company also refused to block the accounts of right-wing activists who spread conspiracy theories and misinformation. The Supreme Federal Court later withdrew a fine of 18.35 million reais (2.98 million euros) from the bank accounts of X and Musk’s internet company Starlink.
The entrepreneur closed the office in Brazil in mid-August on the grounds that he feared his then-representative would be arrested due to a legal dispute over right-wing X accounts.

The lawyer who has now been appointed had already represented the company before the branch was closed in Brazil. Musk, who has been a major supporter of Republican former President Donald Trump in the US election campaign for some time, always presents himself as a defender of freedom of expression.
He accused Moraes of attacking freedom of expression and described him as an “evil dictator.” A federal judge opened an investigation into Musk in April for obstruction of justice and incitement to commit a crime.
