IPhone in Car: CarPlay and Navigation improved in iOS 18.4

With an update of iOS 18.4, which is expected in April, there are also various improvements on the iPhone for a certain target group: drivers. Apple now binds it to its in-house navigation system, provides more space in the carplay interface and optimizes at least e-car support in an important market.

With iOS 18.4, it is now possible to determine which app is used by default for sailors – not only by car, but also by public transport, by walking or bike. Now the area is also a standard setting for the navigation system in the area. If you want, you can set Google Map, Sygic or any other appropriate application. Apple does this because the group is regulated as part of the Digital Market Act of the European Union Commission. Therefore, there is no work in other markets. Ultimately, American users can stop a default app for now (also) translations, it is voluntarily applying it.

It was not initially clear whether the default setting also applies to the carplay. But there is also a positive change with iOS 18.4: the number of icons on some vehicle displays increases, which is divided the entire lines or minimalist depending on the alignment. This is useful because you have to scroll less, especially on the way of an extremely intelligent “convenience”. For example, two rows with four icons appeared on each 9 -inch screen. How Apple decides that this is not clear – clearly no setting option.

If you are traveling in USA with Apple Car Player, you can also use new routing functions for e-cars. NACS Loding Adapter is now supported, so now you can place a Tesla supercharger in a Ford which was not available for these vehicles earlier. There are instructions on this On US Ford websiteIt is still not clear whether the work will come in other markets as well.

Apple has details on the use of e-vehicle navigation in Apple Maps and CarPlays Compiled in his support area hereWork vary depending on the country and region, the group warns.
