iPhone 16 Pro in case of damage: repair is no longer difficult

For years, Apple was told by renowned repair service provider iFixIt that the repairability of its devices was relatively low. Now the company is being praised for the second time in a row: After iPhone 16, now iPhone 16 Pro also has “repairability score”. Scored at least 7 out of 10Among other things, it was praised for the easy access to some components, such as the LIDAR scanner on the back – and the USB-C port is also quite easy to replace.

However, what the iPhone 16 Pro (and Pro Max) lacks is the ease of removing the battery by powering it on. Instead, as before, there are so-called pulltabs, which are easily accessible. The LIDAR scanner is no longer located beneath the camera module, so you no longer have to remove it completely. You can access USB-C ports much faster than before, but Apple isn’t currently selling the components individually. Now you can access the motherboard a little faster.

The battery of iPhone 16 Pro is now in a metal case, which protects it better. Confusingly, Apple hasn’t implemented this with the iPhone 16 Pro Max, which is hard to understand – more expensive models would definitely benefit from it too. Along with the battery change, Apple is preparing for new rules from the EU Commission that require smartphone batteries to be much easier to remove. The smartest thing would probably be to introduce both battery removal and metal case removal using lightning to all devices – this could be the case with the latest iPhone 17.

Meanwhile, Apple has already published repair manuals for all new iPhones iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro And iPhone 16 Pro MaxThese are very comprehensive and also include detailed drawings, diagnostic tips and instructions on construction.

The spare parts, screws and necessary tools that can be ordered are also listed. Apple already sells the appropriate screws, adhesive strips, and many other parts – but the USB-C port is part of a “charge port assembly” that includes more components than necessary.
