iOS 17.6 is coming: probably this week

Apple is said to be close to releasing iOS 17.6. As 9to5Mac reported on Sunday evening, the release is “imminent”, which means it could arrive this week – possibly on Monday or Tuesday. The build number should be 21G79. Other updates for other Apple systems can also be expected soon.

It is said that Apple considered releasing iOS 17.5.2 at some point, but then decided to switch directly to iOS 17.6. Beta tests of iOS 17.6 and Co. have been going on since June, and the current version is beta 4. So far, it is known that the Apple TV application will have a new “Catch Up” feature for subscribers of Apple’s Major League Soccer football series, which allows you to watch highlights of the US league. Otherwise, bug fixes and especially security improvements can be expected.

iOS 17 is already quite advanced and all the main functions have been published accordingly. Apple is currently focusing on iOS 18, the public beta version of which was released for the first time last week. We are currently waiting for Apple to release parts of its AI features for testing. It is expected that only developers will be allowed to test initially and there may also be a waiting list for Apple Intelligence.

It can be assumed that Apple will release iOS 17.6 along with macOS 14.6, iPadOS 17.6, tvOS 17.6, watchOS 10.6, and a new HomePod OS software 10.6. Here, too, there is hardly any information about major innovations; Apple relies on bug fixes and security improvements.

For example, the macOS 14.6 beta release notes state that Finder and core Spotlight bugs have been fixed. With iOS and iPadOS 17.6, Bluetooth bugs, new MarketplaceKit and problems with cameras and AVFoundation Capture on iPad have been fixed. However, for watchOS 10.6, Apple has not mentioned any innovations as part of the fourth beta version. It is possible that iOS 17.6 and Co. are the final releases of this generation – but Apple may release a bug fix update before September.
