It was four years ago that Audi no longer wanted to shy away from carving out a niche in the “SUV coupe” market, even with the popular Q5. It is in greater demand elsewhere in the world than in Western Europe. But even here, interest in the Q5 Sportback is high enough that Audi is likely to get at least enough sales figures to justify a second version. She continues to follow the previous recipe practically unchanged.

Dynamic or chubby?
Of course, no skimping on cheap details is done in the package insert. It says that the silhouette is more dynamic even when stationary, the lines are graceful and the appearance is sporty. You’re targeting design-savvy customers. Please don’t stone me, I am also not part of the target group, but this SUV coupe also looks quite rough to me. However, Audi hopes its approach will appeal to the tastes of its intended buyers. The increasing number of such offers certainly indicates this.
The front end is similar to that of the “normal” Audi Q5. Audi was clearly not aiming for a revolution in design.

The interiors follow the same design language that Audi introduced with the Q6 e-tron. It has a modern infotainment system that can be expanded with apps as desired. Like other manufacturers, Audi also hopes to be able to build long-term and financially profitable relationships with customers. If you prefer, you can invest in two additional displays: one in the windshield and one in front of the passenger. The only thing that irritates this stylish environment are the large dummy buttons in front of the openers in the door panels.

The second Q5 Sportback is 4.72 meters long and has a wheelbase of 2.82 meters. There are differences between the models in terms of the trunk. Between 515 and 1415 liters fit in the Q5, and between 470 and 1388 liters fit in the SQ5, which is currently the most powerful model. As for the Q5, the SUV coupe can handle a trailer load of up to 2.4 tonnes. There is no trailer hitch for the top model, at least for now. By the way, Audi is not following a trend in the Q5 Sportback either: the optional glass roof can be opened – unlike, for example, the VW ID.5 or the Skoda Enyaq coupe.
The dashboard, with an optional display on the passenger side, matches the design that Audi first showed in the Q6.

triple combustion engine
The Q5 Sportback will initially be offered with three drives. The basic model is a two-litre petrol engine with 150 kW and front-wheel drive, also optionally available with all-wheel drive. The sole diesel also produces 150kW, but at 400 it offers at least 60Nm more torque than the basic petrol engine. The SQ5 Sportback has a V6 petrol engine with 270 kW and 550 Nm. All have a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and mild hybrid attachment, consisting of a drivetrain generator and an LFP battery with an energy content of 1.7 kWh. The electric motor can support the combustion engine with up to 18 kW and 230 Nm. The recovery power is maximum 25 kW.
Plug-in hybrids will follow
Several plug-in hybrids are expected to arrive with an electric range of at least 100 km. It can also be assumed that there is three-phase alternating current with 11 kW, at least direct current with 50 kW. If you want to charge even faster, you will have to use an electric car. Audi introduced a similarly-sized SUV coupe, the Q6 e-tron Sportback, this year with battery-electric drive.
At the start of sales, Audi only offers a combustion engine in the Q5 Sportback. Plug-in hybrids will arrive next year.

The price of the Q5 in Sportback form is above 54,800 euros; For the top model you will have to pay at least 85,400 euros. Orders can be placed from December 2024 and deliveries are expected to begin in the first quarter of 2025.
