With the Ear (Open), Nothing is introducing open headphones for the first time. These are worn over the ear and do not block the ear canal. The Ear (Open) has a cylindrical element that houses the battery and the actual earphones. It transmits sound to the ear through a 14.2 millimeter diameter driver with a titanium coating. Both elements are connected via a white plastic bracket. One earphone weighs eight grams, which is less than other open ears. The Ear (Open) communicates via Bluetooth 5.3 to Android devices with version 5.0 and iPhones with iOS 13 or newer.
The perceived comfort of wearing headphones always varies from person to person. The Nothing Ear (open) was well received by our test subjects, regardless of whether they wore glasses or not. Due to their low weight, the earphones do not bother you even when worn for long periods of time. During exercise-intensive sports such as running, they make minimal movements without causing any interference. They did not fall out of our ears during training. With IP54, they, like the case, are protected from water splashes and can stay on your ears even in the rain, but you should not submerge them.
Podcasts sound better than orchestra
Due to the design, the ear (open) sound less full and bass-heavy than in-ears, which close the ear canal, or cover large parts of the ears. They are less suitable for sophisticated music enjoyment, but they sound good for casual listening. Voices are easy to understand. On the bike, wind noise sounds comparatively loud to the ears, so we wish there was a little more volume. Voice quality is very good when making calls with the Nothing ear (open), and they filter out ambient noise very efficiently. This makes them interesting for use in the office, along with the wearing comfort. Like all headphones made this way, there is no active noise cancellation.

Like all existing Nothing products, ChatGPT is also integrated into Ear (unlocked). You will need to activate the function in the Nothing-X app, which is used to manage the headphones.
If the earphones are fully charged, one battery charge will last you about eight hours, depending on the volume. This means that the Nothing Ear (open) almost matches the manufacturer’s stated running time. In this case you can fully charge it three times as long as the charging case does not require a power cable. The case has a transparent lid, the bottom part is white.
The Nothing Ear (unlocked) is available now for €149. They are only available in white.
