As announced, Instagram is now bringing its user accounts for teens to Germany and other European countries. This automatically gives parents and other legal guardians more control over young people’s Instagram activities.

To open an account on Instagram, you must be at least 13 years old. For the Platform, “teens” are all users aged 13 to 17. More strict rules apply to 13 to 15 year olds than to 16 and 17 year olds.
Under 16 only accompanied by parents
Accounts for children ages 13 to 15 are automatically set to “Private” and are subject to parental controls. This means that only those with direct contact can view content and interact with children. Objectionable comments or messages are suppressed in the app. Instagram also tries to keep age-appropriate content away from teens’ feeds.
Accounts enter a sleep mode from 10 pm to 7 am that mutes notifications, automatically replies to messages, and reminds the account holder when it’s time to sleep. The teen remembers to turn off Instagram, even after using it for 60 minutes a day.
parental control function The accounts were already available on a voluntary basis. With new teen accounts, they will be expanded and automatically set up for young users and their guardians.
Parents or other legal guardians can use this to limit how long children can use Instagram each day. Parents also see who teens are writing to, but without tracking the content. Parents also control various security settings of the accounts and can approve or disapprove any changes the teen wants.
automatic change
With the introduction of teen accounts, existing accounts of teens under 16 will be converted to private, even if they already have a public account. You’ll need parental permission to make your account public again. Existing accounts for 16 and 17 year olds will remain public if they were previously public.
New accounts for users under 18 are automatically set to private. Teens under 16 need parental permission to switch to a public account. Teens aged 16 to 17 can make their own accounts public unless under parental supervision.
Meta is also using artificial intelligence to identify accounts of teenagers who have lied about their age. If the Software determines that the User must be under 18 years of age, their account will automatically be made a Teen Account, regardless of the date of birth specified during registration.
