The Meta platform has announced that WhatsApp users will soon be able to integrate their accounts into the service provider’s so-called Account Center. This account overview already includes Facebook and Instagram, so some actions can be taken across all services at the same time. Meta already launched Account Center in autumn 2020 to standardize and link Facebook services and gradually rolled out this account overview worldwide. This means that services can be operated together and single sign-on can be enabled. In this way Facebook users can log in to Instagram with their account. This will also apply to WhatsApp in the future if the user decides to do so.
There’s a reason why inclusion in the Accounting Center remains optional. In October last year, the Cartel Office decided that Meta was not allowed to merge user data without asking. After years of litigation, Meta committed to reforms and stricter data protection rules. WhatsApp account integration with Accounts Center will be available worldwide. However, Meta says the company needs some time for the global rollout and the function may not be used everywhere immediately.
