German developer awards: survival game “Enshrouded” is game of the year


The survival role-playing game “Enshrouded” from Frankfurt game studio Keen Games has won the German Developer Award 2024. It was decided by a jury of 160 industry experts and the title was awarded at an awards ceremony in Cologne on Tuesday. For Keen Games, the win was the highlight of a hugely successful day, with the studio also taking home the titles of Studio of the Year, Best Game Design and Best Technical Achievement. The price for osmotic games and the emotional game “Closer the Distance” was one time lower. It won “Best Audio Design” and “Best Story”, and also received the “Innovation Award”.

The German Developer Award has been awarded since 2004 and is supported by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia and the city of Cologne. It is undoped. As is typical of the genre, they also have to build houses and overcome various challenges. “When creativity and technical performance go hand in hand, great games are made,” NRW Media Minister Nathanael Liminski (CDU) said and praised the fact that award-winning titles demonstrated this effectively. Additionally, “Dungeon of Hinterberg” was awarded as “Best Indie Game”, “CubeQuest – A QB Game” as “Best Casual Game”, and “Vampire Therapist” as “Best Game Beyond Entertainment”. According to experts, this year’s “Best Graphics” belongs to “Harold Halibut”. “Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew” was the best title, followed by “The Wandering Village” the year before that.
