Six years after “Borderlands 3”, a new series offshoot is ready to hit the market: As part of Gamescom’s opening show Opening Night Live, the US development studio showed the first rendered trailer for “Borderlands 4”.

There are no gameplay scenes to see in the trailer, the video only shows pre-rendered visuals. All that is known so far is the release period: “Borderlands 4” is scheduled to hit the market in 2025, but there is no exact date yet.

At the end of the trailer you can see the release platforms: “Borderlands 4” will be released for PC, Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5.
Gearbox has already set up a Steam page: “Do you have what it takes to become a legendary Vault Hunter while searching for a secret alien treasure and destroying everything in your path?”
Take-Two buys Gearbox
“Borderlands 4” will be the first Gearbox game following the Take-Two acquisition: in March, former parent company Embracer announced the sale of the cult development studio for $460 million. Embracer itself bought Gearbox in 2021. At the time, the publisher directly transferred $363 million, raising the price to $1.3 billion; how much of this was ultimately acquired is unclear.
The deal with Take-Two includes Gearbox Software in Texas, Gearbox Montreal and Gearbox Quebec. The famous Gearbox brands “Borderlands”, “Homeworld”, “Risk of Rain”, “Brothers in Arms” and “Duke Nukem” were also transferred to Take-Two as part of the transaction. Meanwhile, Embracer will retain Gearbox Publishing in San Francisco, which was known as Perfect World Entertainment until 2022.
After “Borderlands 3”, Gearbox developed, among other things, a spin-off called “Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands” and the adventure game “New Tales from the Borderlands”.
