From around $1000 to a fantastic amount
The unrealistically high fine is one of several fines imposed on YouTube in recent years, but most of them were comparatively small amounts. The platform was criticized for, among other things, taking advantage of a monopoly position or not removing illegal content. In May 2022, the Russian branch of YouTube finally filed for bankruptcy. A Moscow court had previously fined Google 7.2 billion rubles (about 86 million euros at the time), which was unsuccessfully appealed. Google services and YouTube are still available in Russia, but their speeds have been significantly slowed for several weeks.
Just a few weeks ago, US company Meta kicked out Russian state media from its in-house services Facebook, Instagram, Threads and WhatsApp, it remains to be seen whether it will face similar punishment; Till now there has been no comment from YouTube regarding this increased amount. Basically Google should Pay 100,000 rubles (about $1,400).According to a lawyer involved in the case, the American video platform cannot return to the Russian market until the court’s decision is followed. It would take more than 13 quadrillion years of consolidated profits to pay back the amount spent to date.
