One of the new features of the recently released iPhone 16 models and the Apple Watch Series 10 is the fact that Apple has reduced the wireless charging time. The maximum power consumption was increased for the same purpose. This has many advantages in practice: the smartphone charges more quickly – for example before a long journey – while the computer watch gets enough charge for sleep tracking even after a good sports session. All four iPhone 16 devices support a new, proprietary MagSafe standard. Instead of just 7.5 watts (Qi) or 15 watts (Qi2), the devices recharge with up to 25 watts of power. So Apple has basically hoped for a “Qi3” that doesn’t exist yet. However, many users probably already have a 30-watt power supply. Apple’s standard power supply costs 45 euros. As usual, MagSafe is always slower than charging via cable – and is not necessarily better for battery life either due to the heat generated. An iPhone 16 Pro should be around 30 watts as standard – but up to a maximum of 40 watts has already been measured.
