DKB: Cards cannot currently be stored with Apple Pay on Mac

The Apple Pay payment service, which is popular among Apple customers, is available not only on iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch, but also on Mac. Once set up in Apple Wallet, if the e-commerce provider supports it, you can use the Safari browser to pay for your purchases using the fingerprint on the Touch ID sensor. However, Direct Bank DKB customers currently cannot do this if they have received a new credit card: setup fails due to a verification error.

To ensure that every user cannot deposit a potentially stolen credit card with Apple Pay, banks offer an additional verification process. This applies even if you’ve managed to successfully set up Apple Pay on another device. On iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch, the corresponding banking app is usually used for this purpose – also as an alternative to (actually insecure) SMS. Since banking apps are not typically available on Macs and DKB apparently has not found a way to process verification via a banking app on a cell phone, SMS is also used there. After completing the card deposit, a mandatory verification step is required.

Problem: There have been failures in the server responsible for this since at least the weekend. SMS with verification number was also not sent to valid account holders. The result is that you get stuck in a verification loop (“verification required”). After several attempts, an error message appears stating that no “verification method” exists and that they are not available. It simply says, “Contact your card provider for more information.”

Anyone affected by the issue can no longer close the control panel in which the Wallet app is located: the app gets stuck in an endless loop after clicking “OK”. The only solution is to change the entire system settings to shoot downRemoving unconfirmed credit cards is also not possible – or rather, not advisable. You can’t delete all credit cards stored on your Mac using iCloud settings alone – so even the ones that work will have to be re-entered. But deleting it and trying again ends up causing a blockage.

According to information from the DKB hotline, the error is known and is being worked on. The employee did not provide any information about when improvements could be expected. It is also unclear whether the bank will have to reactivate the verification process for users who are currently provided with no verification method. Apple Pay deposits on iPhone and Apple Watch still appear to work.
