Users of previous Studio One 6 Artist or Pro licenses will receive an upgrade to Studio One 7 Pro at an offer price of 149 euros. The range of works may also increase and the company excludes discounted “artist” licenses from its portfolio. In return, buyers receive a perpetual license, but updates and new functions are only available for one year after purchase. Presonus so praises Pro+ license with more additional features which is equivalent to a monthly or annual subscription. PreSonus did not provide any concrete plans upon request, but stressed that Studio One 6 should continue to be supported. How long this will remain is unclear.

Over 30 new features
PreSonus explains that the Studio One 7 will receive over 30 new features that will make it “the ultimate drag-and-drop digital audio workstation.” For example, the new launcher offers a new way to record, organize, and produce music. It is based on so-called cells, which provide references to audio clips in audio and instrument tracks. Views connect different cells that are run at the same time. In turn, scenes can be arranged in any order in a playlist that includes parts of songs or entire songs. It should also be suitable for live performance, for example with loops in clips.
The Loop tool for pattern components can now be used for all types of events and pattern parts. Its purpose is to save time in production and arrangement. The “Global Transpose” function sounds interesting and does exactly that: it transposes all tracks by a specified number of steps. It should also work on audio tracks without any major loss in quality due to pitch shifting.
AI can’t be abandoned
Using unspecified artificial intelligence, Studio One 7 is said to be able to separate mixed audio recordings into their own stems for drums, bass, chords and vocals. The result needs to be able to be instantly put back into a file to create an instrumental version of a piece without vocals. However, this function is still in its infancy and significant improvements are already being planned.
Studio One 7 Feature Page There are several other minor changes listed that DAW developers missed. It remains to be seen whether the price of at least 150 euros per year is worth it to music lovers who were previously happy with cheap artist licenses. For example, if necessary, there are several options reaper offers An inexpensive offering for the non-professional sector and runs on Linux, macOS and Windows. Ardor is also a cross-platform, powerful DAW that is based on open source – if you don’t want to pay for it, you can compile it yourself.
