This week our gallery photographers managed to capture small and large animals in their photos, alone or in groups. Some are in funny positions, others are reminiscent of a movie. But all of them are beautifully portrayed.

“This photo emerged spontaneously from a situation when the seagulls were not flying above as expected, but were curiously watching us as we crossed the ice section in the Zodiac. It was important for me to show interested eye contact with the seagulls. The sky behind the animals should be as free as possible so as not to distract attention from the subject, due to the white-gray color of the clouds, the whole image remains almost in the same tone and the low position in the Zodiac made it possible to be at eye level with the animals,” says Stefan Weber (Pham Nuvem) about the creation of his portrait On the ice,
The whole scene is reminiscent of the movie “Finding Nemo,” in which the seagulls chase their next snack with the word “mine.” The birds in this picture are expected to fly away immediately when they spot something edible.

Hairstyle and nose ring pentecost The animal in Otto Hitzgrad’s photo is reminiscent of a person with long hair and piercings covering the face. The blurred background shows the animal’s head well and allows the details of the nose and hair to appear.
The photographer writes to us about how he took the picture: “I took this picture at the Tarmstedt Exhibition, which is a specialist agricultural exhibition. Because I arrived early, I was able to see how the breeders prepared their animals for the presentation. This included combing, brushing, etc. I immediately spotted the bull with his beautiful crowing among the high mountain cattle, and I had to take his picture, the only thing that came into question for me was the neckline, nose ring and hair style.
Little Buddha

“This little prairie dog sat there for about a quarter of an hour, looking at the delighted zoo visitors – just like a little Buddha. At that moment he was the star among the lively little animals and fit into my collection of strange animal behaviour”, says Kurt Werl (Braveman 1954) about the dog’s posture in which he is photographed Little Buddha Occurred.
In fact, the animal appears very calm and peaceful, just like the famous sitting figure of the religious founder Siddhartha Gautama. A snapshot made even cuter by the title.

George May took his picture screamer during an air show at the Hellenthal Bird of Prey Station in the Eifel. “To this day I don’t know if it is a sea eagle or a golden eagle. In any case, the bird of prey showed its best side in the photo during flight,” he says.
What’s particularly interesting in the photo is the detail of the bird’s beak and face, which automatically come into focus when it calls. The blurred background also helps keep the focus on the bird.

The backlight and blurring of the image make the two waving girls stand out sibling love The bird stands out from the background perfectly, by Lightpix84. The lighting makes the whole scene look pleasant and calm. Due to the photographer’s low position, the two young birds are exactly at camera height, which blurs the foreground and gives depth to the image.

The important thing about this photo by Jörg Franzen (Anlauchzehtouche) is definitely the perspective. The swooping seagull definitely makes you think: It would be close…
The photographer tells us about the creation of this optical illusion: “The photo was taken on the beach of Zingst on the Baltic Sea. The beach is an interesting photo area with its pier, seabird life, rolling Baltic Sea and the associated lighting and mood. I had already observed several times how herring gulls bravely dived into the Baltic Sea in the hope of getting a catch, I followed the dive of the herring gulls in the series photo mode, and this photo from the series was actually included, which explains the impression that the seagulls are about to hit the breakwater and then they start to get a severe headache.”

The grey heron looks beautifully framed between two tree trunks and the blurred background makes it stand out from the composition. Gallery photographer Rolf Fries manages to capture the animal in great detail. The amount of pollen in the air also creates a beautiful bokeh effect. The dark area on the left side of the picture also draws attention to the majestic looking bird on the right.
