At its conclusion, CubeCon + CloudNativeCon in Salt Lake City was all about the larger CNCF community of developers, users, and fans. The focus was primarily on one global component: the continent of Africa. Apparently Africa is still considered a blind spot on the CNCF map by the Cloud Native Computing Foundation. But this is not entirely true: about 20 smaller events and gatherings have already occurred on the continent so far in 2024. These extend to the countries of Angola, Mauritius, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal and Tunisia. The number of CNCF members has almost doubled this year and now stands at 805.

Focus on training and further education
Further steps are now to be taken: CNCF has launched an Africa-wide training program for developers in cloud-native environments. The Foundation is committed to Partnership with Andela A – An established market for talent. According to his own statement, Andela is present in almost all African countries. Over the past 10 years, more than 100,000 people have completed training programs there.
As per CNCF’s wishes, around 20,000 to 30,000 people should go through the new programme. The focus is on the KCNA (Kubernetes and Cloud Native Associate) and CKAD (Certified Kubernetes Application Developer) certifications. Those responsible for CNCF expect that each participant will need approximately six to nine months to obtain the above mentioned certifications.
New certificates issued
Talking about certificates, there are two new things here. First of all, there are three new, fairly project-specific certifications: CBA (Certified Backstage Associate), OTCA (Open Telemetry Certified Associate) And KCA (Kiverno Certified Associate)Given the continued growth in the CNCF landscape, more certifications can definitely be expected in the future. Meanwhile, an entirely new category has already been introduced: platform engineeringThis includes the Certified Cloud Native Platform Associate and/or Certified Cloud Native Platform Engineer certifications. Anyone who wishes to receive the Associate award must pass a classic examination with multiple choice questions. Platform engineers, on the other hand, have to demonstrate their skills in practical ways.

A colorful spectrum of news
But the conference also had some nice highlights beyond the keyboards, pods, and more. Comes from Mirantis – Mirantis is known for the Kubernetes Engine MKE confirmed friendA one of a kind conference planner with AI enhancements. Instead of manually plowing through the massive tables of lectures sometimes at major events like KubeCon + CloudNativeCon, users can get help from a Conf-Buddy by simply asking new app specific questions. The results are recommendations for sessions that match your own desires and expectations. There are also references to lectures that you should definitely not miss. The technology behind Conf-Buddy is actually not that difficult. There is usually enough data in the form of a title and abstract for each talk. This can then be combined with information about the speaker and/or their company. If necessary, additional information can also be added from the Internet – and the bundled data is ready in Mirantis’ Conf-Buddy.
Cinema atmosphere at a film premiere at KubeCon.

The “film premiere” is almost a tradition at KubeCon. CNCF supported Speakeasy Productions Safe. After “Inside Envoy – The Proxy for the Future” and “EBPF: Unlocking the Kernel”, this time it was “Inside Argo: Automating the Future“. In a cinema environment and with muesli bars instead of popcorn, audiences were able to take a look behind the scenes of this automation software. For film fans and cinema lovers, there are also new and additional films to discover at Speakeasy Productions .
The conference concluded with a knowledge competition that Tim Hawking – one of the fathers of Kubernetes – conducted on stage with two teams. Questions revolved around technical, non-technical and some historical knowledge. The scenery was based on a game on American television called Family Feud. whoever wants can do it just do it yourself at homeOf course Techie can do it too Look at the source code behind it,
