Whether classic or unusual, there are many different approaches to a portrait. Some require good planning and a utensil or two, others simply require a successful snapshot. As long as the image can tell the viewer something and meets the aesthetic requirements of the photographer, the result is usually worth seeing.

The Red Eye of Maiden Crane Immediately catches the attention. What is striking is the soft light, which highlights the feathers on the bird’s head. Photographer Dieterin has captured the animal very well against the black background and left enough space for the light to shine through perfectly. The crane is beautifully portrayed and the picture is really eye-catching.

Feeney 1

The recording seems worthwhile Feeney 1 By Ralf Dirksen Photography. About his photo he says that he was immediately impressed by the naturalness and charisma of the model. The photo was taken in an old vinegar factory near Münster. The large window on the right served as the only source of light. The shadows it creates on the opposite side create contrast that brings the picture to life.

The frame in the foreground gives the image additional depth and creates a metaphorical barrier for the subject. It also creates an accent that draws attention to the model’s face and gaze.

In the lab

Configure mirrorless cameras – Photography not 5/2024

This picture of a snail is completely different from the picture of a human. Adam Newba (Actioreactio) wrote to us about his creation In the lab: “The idea for the picture came by chance when a large stainless steel block with a round hole in it came into my hands. A few days later I already had the finished picture in my mind, but in reality the implementation took several weeks. I have the scene in the small home studio built largely from metal components and also adapted the lighting. The creation always requires attention to detail, patience and a certain willingness to experiment. The final version of the picture requires sensitivity, a little luck and a lot of patience, because in the end “the snail does whatever it wants.”

I think I am lost…

The picture of the brown rabbit with the title was made very spontaneously I think I’m lost… Bernd Siebel took a picture with his cell phone as the rabbit ran across the meadow next to his home in a rural area of Franconia.

Looking at the posture and trustfulness of the little inhabitant of forests and meadows, you could almost believe that this was not his first appearance as a photo model.

a flower in the mirror

“This photo was taken during a shoot in a home studio. I placed an old, discarded mirror on a table and took several photos with the reflections there. In the end, I rotated the SW version by 90 degrees so that the photo has a slightly surreal, graphic look to it,” Ivan explains in the abstract about his photo a flower in the mirror,

The words of his model Alev describing the situation are quite poetic: “I am a flower in the mirror, unique in its tenderness and strength. In my reflection I recognize not only who I was, but also who I have become – and when I close my eyes, I have an idea of who I will become. My tattoos tell the story of my journey, and the roses symbolize the love and pride I feel for myself. The thorns of this rose are a reminder of the pain I endured until I finally bloomed. This duality that you think you see does not exist. Contemplation is my truth – a symphony of transformation and acceptance.

puffin

Puffin too puffin Called upon, Andreas Schwager (photographer) was able to take the pictures during a vacation. “During my vacation in Iceland, I took a ferry to the Vestmannaeyjar Islands to take pictures of the local puffins there. In the evening, the cute little ones stayed in their nests and we were able to take pictures of them at our leisure. Of course, from a reasonable distance at a time,” he says of the composition.

In this case, the model has positioned herself completely in front of the photographer, so that the shot looks as if it has been agreed upon between the two of them beforehand.

Julia

(Image: Photo Publications)

Gallery Photographer Photo Publications Presents with His Photo Julia A classic black and white photo that impresses with its simple composition and creative use of light. The rays on the right break up the starkness. This ensures a balanced distribution of image elements and creates a counterpoint to the otherwise black background.

The model’s gaze is not on the camera, which makes the mood of the shot seem a little calmer and less intense. One wonders where her gaze is focused and what she might be thinking. Does it move toward the glare of light or avoid it?
