Child seats in testing: two failures in pollutant testing

Keeping children in the car has become an expensive deal. Many child seats in the current ADAC test cost more than 500 euros. It is worth comparing prices, because children do not always sit worse in a less expensive seat. However, parents should not go below a certain mark when shopping.

First, the good news: ADAC tested 17 child seats, and in the “safety” chapter, “satisfactory” was the worst grade given. Over the decades since the club has been testing child seats, there have been very poor reviews in this regard – even though testing requirements have been repeatedly tightened. Most seats in the test achieved “good” ratings. Only five seats make a “satisfactory” rating. There are obvious differences in operation, and this point should not be ignored. Because only a correctly installed seat can fully develop its safety potential. Some manufacturers make things unnecessarily difficult for parents. Since Isofix hooks have been required in new cars for some time now, we will always prefer such models.

The level of pollutants is normal in most of the seats. However, there are three notable outliers in this discipline. The “Britax Roamer Evolvafix” achieved only a “satisfactory” rating – a surprising result, as other seats from this manufacturer perform very well. The same applies to the “Maxi-Cosi Rodfix M”, the only seat from this provider that has very high pollutant levels and is therefore rated “adequate”. The “Graco Snuglite i-Size” completely fails in this discipline – a seat that scores well in terms of safety.

The Duna child seat has an integrated chassis and can therefore also be used as a stroller. It is practical because you do not need to carry the stroller in the car. However, ADAC recommends not using the Donna seat as a stroller permanently – the seating position is at an angle. Obviously the seat is also a little heavier than others. At 720 euros, the practical combination of child seat and stroller is also quite expensive.

The Donna child seat has a chassis integrated. It is practical, but it must cost more than 700 euros to parents.
