Blackmagic introduces cine camera specifically for Apple Immersive Video

Blackmagic Design is entering the market for spatial video or Apple immersive video. The professional video specialist is launching its own camera system, URSA Cine Immersive. According to the manufacturer, it was developed specifically to capture content for Apple’s Vision Pro mixed reality headset. High pitch Information about X The system can record video at 8K per eye (8160 by 7200 pixels). The refresh rate is a maximum of 90fps. “16 stops of dynamic range” is also promised.

There was something else besides the announcement on X More detailed press release The system. This suggests dual 90fps capture into a single Blackmagic RAW file. The URSA Cine Immersive comes with an 8TB Blackmagic Media Module, but otherwise supports WLAN, 10G Ethernet and even mobile data for network connections. Blackmagic Design also promises color grading with Generation 5 color science, including a new film curve.

Otherwise the camera should be “light and robust” – but the manufacturer has not yet provided any more specific information. In the photos (see above) you can see the URSA Cine Immersive already mounted on a professional drone. Blackmagic Design has not yet provided any information on the price. However, since the URSA Cine 12K alone (without spatial video) costs just under 16,500 euros in German stores without a lens, a five-figure cost can be expected. The URSA Cine Immersive will be available “later this year”.

To match the new camera, Blackmagic Design will also equip its editing program DaVinci Resolve with immersive functions. With a subsequent update, the Vision Pro can also be monitored directly. The software allows you to edit Blackmagic RAW immersive material, has a dedicated viewer with pan, tilt and roll, automatically recognizes Apple Immersive Video and allows you to output original files directly to the Vision Pro. No information has been provided about the price of the update either.

Before Blackmagic Design, Canon already presented a spatial video strategy: however, the solution is much simpler and (of course) cheaper with the lens intended for the APS-C camera EOS R7. The RF-S7.8mm F4 STM DUAL is also due to be released this year.
