Apple Music Classical: Apple improves classical music app with more content

Apple has announced the availability of the second major version of its classical music app Apple Music Classical. Starting this week Update 2.0 is available on the App Store The provider is continuing to expand its content offering and providing users with a lot of additional content previously known only from analog records and CDs.

Apple Music Classical was introduced in March 2023 and is part of Apple Music, so it has no additional cost for users who pay 10.99 euros per month or 109 euros per year. The idea behind the application is to give its own app home to users who appreciate classical music of all genres. On the iPhone and – since last November – also on the iPad, you can get a better overview of what Apple Music has to offer – including editorial and algorithmically curated information on new releases, tips and more.

With Apple Music Classical 2.0, Apple says it has now digitized more than 50,000 album booklets and integrated them into the offering. This means: you can now not only read the content listed as standard – such as individual movements of the symphonies, composers, performers and short reviews – but also browse booklets that are otherwise only available in analog form. If these are already available they can be found by clicking on the “Book” icon. The content is often multilingual, contains information about orchestras and soloists, biographies, sometimes texts and more.

The booklets are displayed directly in the Apple Music Classic app – they are loaded there as well; there is no provision to open them in other apps or export them. Navigation is via the respective booklet page and the zoom function; this is not extremely comfortable.

Another new feature in Apple Music Classical 2.0 is related to navigation. There is now a “Last Added” feature within the media library, which allows you to find albums recently added to the library, which were not previously available for quick access. This content can be found directly under the library components in the corresponding tab. Apple still has not implemented another long-standing wish: there are still no plans to download classical music directly into the Apple Music Classic app, for this you will have to switch to Apple Music;
