The rumor mill is confident that Apple will introduce a new iPhone SE model next year – after a total wait of three years. The fact that it will be compatible with Apple Intelligence could mean that the hardware is better equipped than expected from a “normal” entry-level iPhone. This is reported by Macromarkets.

AI: RAM does this
Currently iPhones usually have a little less RAM than Android devices. Some work has been moved to a much faster SSD. However, Apple Intelligence requires at least 8 GB of RAM: language models that work partially on devices need space. However, Apple has recently installed only 4 GB of RAM in the SE 3 from 2022. For the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus it is again 6 GB; these are also not compatible with Apple Intelligence. On the other hand, the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max also have 8 GB of RAM in addition to the existing A17 Pro chip.
As Macromarkets now reports, it’s “likely” that the iPhone SE 4 – or SE 2025 – will also be available. Equipped with 8 GB This will happen because Apple wants to give all new devices Apple Intelligence. This should also apply to the iPhone 16 standard models (16 and 16 Plus), which are expected to arrive in September. It is currently expected that the iPhone SE 4 will appear in March or April-May at the latest. The hardware should be a mix of the iPhone 16 interior and the iPhone 14 optics, including the notch. So Apple will eventually do away with the home button and switch all devices to facial recognition (Face ID).

The SE 4 is better than the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus
Since the iPhone SE always lasts several years in the range, Apple tries to install an up-to-date interior, even if the housing is based on an older device, for reasons of savings (both hardware and production costs). Accordingly, the iPhone SE 4 could be an attractive device if you don’t necessarily want the latest iPhone look. The iPhone SE 3 is currently based on the 2016 iPhone 7.
The well-known – and often accurate – Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman also believes that Apple Intelligence will make it into the iPhone SE 4: “You can bet on it.” However, for many users it will be confusing that a cheaper entry-level model (probably around 530 euros) can do more than the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus. Apple is likely to continue to have both devices in its range next year, at least that is usually the rule.
