No concrete ideas yet, but at least an early look: AMD is revealing the first details about a new generation of graphics cards at the CES 2025 tech trade fair, including a new naming scheme. The first two models are called the Radeon RX 9070 XT and the Radeon RX 9070 and should be available by the end of March 2025.
So the 8000 nomenclature is reserved for the integrated RDNA 3.5 graphics units of Ryzen processors. With the number turner – the 9070 instead of the 9700 – AMD wants to more clearly represent the counterparts of Nvidia’s GeForce graphics cards.
In a graphic, AMD shows the 9070 series next to its Radeon RX 7900 XT, at the level of the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti and the GeForce RTX 4070 Super. At the time of market launch, the new graphics card is likely to compete with the upcoming GeForce RTX 5070. The 9060 series also includes graphics; So it will work later.
AMD is not releasing high-end graphics cards until further notice. Accordingly, the Radeon RX 7900 XTX remains the fastest model in the overview.
This is how AMD envisions its own graphics card portfolio – without Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 5000.

4nm and FSR4 on board
There are not many details yet. AMD confirms that the GPUs will be manufactured monolithically using a 4-nanometer process – likely by chip contract manufacturer TSMC. Like the graphics unit of the Playstation 5 Pro, RDNA4 compute units should be able to render ray traced graphics effects faster. AMD has not yet revealed how many shader cores there are.
FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) 4 gets an AI upscaler tailored to Nvidia’s Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) and Intel’s XE Super Sampling (XESS). An AI model determines what graphics should look like in higher resolution before scaling it down to a lower rendering resolution. Previously, FSR processed sequential images (temporal anti-aliasing) and sharpened them to improve image quality.
According to AMD, FSR4 is optimized for RDNA 4 – which suggests the Radeon 9000 specification.
