Acer Iconia Tab P11 from 229 euros in the test: tablet with 11 inches and Android 14

If you’re looking for a tablet for entertainment on the couch, you don’t have to spend a lot of money. For just over 200 euros, buyers can get a tablet with a metal housing and Android 14, which also plays content from streaming services in Full HD thanks to Widevine Level 1.

Acer Iconia Tab P11 also falls in this category. The manufacturer is primarily known for monitors, laptops, and gaming PCs with Windows. The portfolio of products with Android is small – but with the Tab P11 the manufacturer also offers an entry-level tablet. We have tested the product and shown whether it is worth buying.

The Acer Iconia Tab P11 looks clean and well built. The design with an angular metal housing is typical of media tablets. The power button and volume rocker provide a strong pressure point and are both located next to each other on the long upper side. The camera is housed in an oval element at the back and protrudes slightly. The front camera is integrated into the thick display bezel on the front.

The 11-inch tablet measures 265.2 × 8.1 × 169.8 mm and weighs around 550 grams. This makes it slightly thicker and wider, similar to the Samsung Galaxy Tab A9+ (test report), but significantly taller due to the different aspect ratio. The included plastic protective cover, which has space to install the tablet, is practical.

The aspect ratio of 5:3 is somewhat unusual; Many Android tablets use 16:9 or 16:10. This provides benefits when reading websites or writing emails. If you watch a movie in widescreen format, you have to live with small black bars at the top and bottom. The diagonal is exactly 11 inches, and the LCD uses an IPS panel, which is common for this price range. It offers high viewing angle stability and good image quality with a resolution of 2000 × 1200 pixels (212 ppi). The refresh rate reaches up to 90Hz, resulting in a smooth picture while scrolling or gaming.

We were able to measure a maximum brightness of 430 c/m². It’s more than enough for use at home, but it’s not bright enough for streaming outside in nice weather. We also noticed a slight yellow tint during testing. Compared to the competition from Samsung, Honor, Lenovo and Xiaomi, the display can’t quite keep up.

The features are on par with an affordable smartphone; On the front, a slim 5-megapixel lens is used for selfies or video conferences. Video chat is not possible in Full HD. The resolution of the rear main camera is 13 megapixels. The recordings lack both sufficient image detail and attractive dynamic range, making them appear blurry, overexposed, and out of focus.

The Acer Iconia Tab P11’s camera isn’t meant for more than the rare snapshot or photographing a document. Unlike smartphones, we don’t give as much importance to the camera on tablets – even though you often hear people wanting to take photos with larger disk computers.

The MediaTek Helio G99 does its thing inside the P11 – a welcome guest in this price range. The octacore CPU provides adequate performance for all common tasks. We achieved an average of over 10,000 in the PCMark benchmarks – which is more than solid performance. In “Wild Life” from 3DMark it’s about 1200 points – which is in the bottom third of our tests. The chip isn’t powerful enough for demanding gaming with complex 3D graphics, but it’s fine for casual games angry birds Above clash of clans towards solitaire There is always sufficient electricity available.

The main memory is quite generous with 8 GB RAM. It has the option of 128 GB or 256 GB internal storage. There is also a slot for a microSD card to expand the storage. The port only offers USB-C 2.0, resulting in slow data transfer via cable. But this is common in this price range. This also applies to Wi-Fi 5 or Bluetooth 5.2, the older standards for home networks. There is no LTE variant of the Acer Iconia Tab P11.

At least users will still get a jack input (3.5mm) for wired headphones. The tablet’s speakers sound quite thin – the competition here is slightly better, even in this price range.

The Acer Iconia Tab P11 runs Android 14. Acer saves users from major adjustments to the user interface. So if you like vanilla Android, you’ve come to the right place. Fortunately, there is almost no bloatware on the tablet.

There is a certification available for Widevine Level 1. So there is no hindrance in streaming content from Netflix, Disney+ or Amazon Prime Video in Full HD. However, at the time of testing, the security patch was from May 2024 and is therefore out of date. Unfortunately, regular updates cannot be expected here.

Battery capacity is 8000 mAh. Run time is good, so we were able to record about 9.5 hours in the PCMark battery test – a good value for a tablet of this size. However, patience is required when charging with the included power adapter, as the charging process takes 3.5 hours. There is no wireless charging.

If you’re looking for a cheap tablet with almost unchanged Android that can also play content in Full HD, you can’t go wrong with the Acer Iconia Tab P11. The 11-inch tablet is well built and has a metal casing. The resolution of the IPS panel is 2K and, thanks to the Widevine Level 1 certification, also allows streaming in Full HD with services such as Netflix, Disney + or Amazon Prime Video. Although the screen offers good image quality, it can’t keep up with the competition in its price range.

The performance is more than enough for entertainment – ​​but less suitable for rigorous gaming. Although the manufacturer doesn’t make any adjustments or bloatware, don’t expect regular Android updates with the Iconia Tab P11. The sound coming from the speaker also seems a bit slow and thin. Still, with the Iconia Tab P11, interested parties get a good and affordable solution for entertainment on the couch.
