AA wireless two in testing

AA Wireless Too retrofits wireless Android Auto into the vehicle for around 60 euros. Testing shows how good the adapter is.

The second generation of adapters from AA Wireless allows smartphones to connect to the car wirelessly via Android Auto. If you still use the infotainment system without a wireless connection, you can inexpensively reinstall this feature with AA Wireless Two. The adapter is not for vehicles that already have an integrated wireless connection for Android Auto. Note: The device does not retrofit Android Auto; The vehicle’s infotainment system should already support this interface.

The design has been completely revised. The new button is for disconnecting Bluetooth pairing from the smartphone. With this you can switch between two smartphones instantly. What is the new adapter good for? 60 euros In practice, we show in this test.

Design and scope of delivery

While the preceding AA Wireless (test report) was designed square with rounded corners, the To model is now rectangular when viewed from above. The edges are strongly rounded so that the adapter resembles an elliptical cylinder. The design of the case is successful and attractive.

The most striking feature is the circular button, which is surrounded by an LED light. This disconnects the Bluetooth connection from the existing mobile device so that you can switch to another smartphone. The adapter is the size of a lighter and can be stored discreetly in the cockpit. The connection is USB-C, and a cable from USB-A to USB-C is included in the scope of delivery. Alternatively, you can also use a USB-C to USB-C cable, but you will have to purchase it separately.

Setup and Features

It’s incredibly easy to set up: You plug the device into the vehicle and then connect your smartphone to the AA Wireless via Bluetooth. We recommend fully setting up Android Auto in advance with a cable connection to the smartphone. The adapter then takes over the role of the cell phone as a placeholder so that a wired connection via Bluetooth becomes possible. It takes about 30 seconds for the connection to be established. Although this takes more time than plugging in the smartphone yourself, it is more convenient in the long run. AA does not support Wireless Two CarPlay. This is a shame because there are adapters in this price range that support both platforms.

Using a button it is possible to disconnect the existing mobile device so that the adapter can connect to another smartphone. By default, to activate pairing mode, press and hold the button for 2 seconds. To switch to the next paired device, simply press a button. Standby mode defaults to disconnecting the adapter when no other devices are paired. To perform a factory reset, you need to press and hold the button for 10 seconds.

The companion app is not required to use it, but users can alternatively get it from the Google Play Store. The app makes it easy to establish a connection between the cell phone and the adapter. Users also have additional options available in the app. Here you can assign alternative functions to buttons (press, double press, long press) and install firmware updates. The manufacturer also promises regular OTA updates.

We tested the adapter with an Opel Astra K as well as the Honor Magic V2 and the Samsung Galaxy S23. We haven’t had any problems installing it so far. We’ll continue using the adapter and update this review as needed.

conclusion

The AA Wireless Two is a compact adapter that enables a wireless connection between a smartphone and the vehicle’s infotainment system. The device only supports Android Auto and establishes the connection in about 30 seconds. The button that allows users to switch back and forth between multiple smartphones is practical. The price is also reasonable. The included cable is only suitable for USB-C to USB-A. If your car has a USB-C port, you will need an additional cable, which is not included in the scope of delivery.
