Mini projector Etoe D2 Pro in test

The Etoe D2 Pro is a compact Full HD projector with integrated Android TV 10. With its price of 149 euros, it is quite affordable. We tested what the little projector can do.

The Etoe D2 Pro aims to prove exactly that. Despite its compactness, the Etoe D2 Pro has native Full HD resolution and runs Android TV 10. We took a closer look at a small thing with big ambitions. In the test we clarify whether the performance is correct and for whom the purchase is worthwhile.

How are the optics and workmanship?

At first glance we liked the Etoe D2 Pro for its compact and convenient format. With dimensions of 11 x 14 x 15 cm and weight of 1.6 kg, it takes up very little space. The matte black plastic surface looks high-quality, and vents on the front and back ensure heat dissipation. Unfortunately there is no cover for the lens and no transport bag is included.

Two 3-watt speakers are hidden behind a perforated panel on the left and right sides. At the top is the power button and a large adjustment wheel for focusing. The artificial leather carrying handle on top makes transportation easy.

Overall, the workmanship appears solid, even if the gap dimensions are not perfect everywhere. But that’s fine for a projector that’s mostly stationary.

What can the hardware do?

When it comes to connections, the D2 Pro offers only the essentials: HDMI, USB-A, a headphone/speaker output, and a power connection. The latter is a round barrel connector and unfortunately not USB-C. The external power supply keeps excess heat away from the compact housing.

Wide rubber feet on the bottom ensure a stable stand, no angle adjustment. The projector also provides a tripod thread for this.

How good is the picture?

For a 150 euro projector, the Full HD Projector D2 Pro doesn’t offer good image quality and is quite dark even at 300 ANSI lumens. Even if the room lighting is low, the image quality suffers.

Furthermore, the illumination is not uniform; It is significantly brighter in the middle of the image than at the edges. Sharpness delivery is also not optimal and colors appear too bright. Manual focus using the adjustment wheel works well, but autofocus would be more convenient. We got the promised digital keystone correction in a submenu, and the image can also be digitally scaled. In both cases the image quality is affected.

How good are the software and operations?

The built-in streaming stick Hako Mini runs with Android TV 10 and provides access to Netflix, Prime Video, YouTube, and many other apps from the Play Store. Despite several attempts, setup testing using the smartphone app did not work. We were forced to enter the username and password using the remote control. When testing the Ato Seal Pro (test report), setup via smartphone was immediately successful.

You can play your media via USB, but only after installing VLC Player. The remote control fits comfortably in the hand, even if there is no button lighting. Voice search and Chromecast support are practical.

The remote control offers useful additional buttons for Netflix and Prime Video. However, it happened twice in our testing that some buttons stopped responding. The only thing that helped was restarting the projector.

How good is the sound and sound?

You have to make significant compromises when it comes to sound: 3-watt speakers are loud enough, but they tend to sound flat and tinny. The bass is almost completely missing. That’s fine for news, but for real movie enjoyment we recommend external speakers or headphones.

Speaking of volume: the cooling fan is clearly audible. However, due to the compact design this can hardly be avoided and is still within limits.

How much does Etoe D2 Pro cost?

This is all anyone buying from Amazon will have to pay for the D2 Pro 300 eurosIts price at geekmaxi with voucher code nAEGsb9R with 149 euros only half.

conclusion

The Etoe D2 Pro is a compact projector that’s perfect for occasional movie and gaming evenings or holidays. With Full HD, Android TV 10 and a reasonable price, it offers a good price-performance ratio.

It shows weaknesses in terms of brightness, illumination and sound – even though you shouldn’t expect miracles in this price range. If you have higher demands on picture and sound quality, you will have to pay more attention to your pocket. For everyone else, the D2 Pro offers a good overall package at a starting price.
