Blackview Tab 60 in test

With the Tab 60, Blackview offers a tablet for less than 100 euros that has Widevine Level 1 certification. This test shows whether it is really a profitable deal.

A tablet doesn’t have to be expensive for couch entertainment. With the Tab 60, Blackview is pushing the 100 euro mark, previously reserved only for no-name models or Amazon’s Fire tablets. There is even a certification for Widevine Level 1. Is there a problem for Android tablets 94 euros (code: NH9QJL8MValid until December 15, 2024), we show in this test report.

design

For the price, the Blackview Tab 60 looks to be of pretty high quality. It feels cleanly made and doesn’t have an unusually strong smell, as we’ve already experienced with cheaper devices. The housing is made of metal and has the typical angular design of tablets. With a diagonal of 10.1 inches, it is one of the smaller devices of its kind, with dimensions of 243.8 × 170.2 × 76 mm, it fits well into any backpack or medium-sized handbag. The weight of 512 grams is relatively high for the size.

As usual, Blackview includes a plastic protective case with the display cover, which can also be used as a stand. The processing of the protective cover is quite simple. These provide some protection from falls, but make using the volume and power buttons a little more difficult.

Display

The diagonal measurement of the IPS panel is 10.1 inches. The resolution of 1280×800 pixels is a bit poor – but not unusual for the price. So Full HD playback is not possible, only HD resolution. This means that the pixels can still be seen with the naked eye. Viewing angle stability is fine. However, colors appear a little pale, and backlight bleeding is quite evident. With a very clear maximum brightness of just under 260 cd/m², it is more suitable for home use.

camera

In general, you shouldn’t expect much from a cheap tablet’s camera. The 8 megapixel lens only delivers very simple images with weak image dynamics, poor image detail and moderate sharpness. It is not intended to be more than the occasional snapshot or photograph of a document. The photo camera for selfies is even weaker at 5 megapixels, providing only moderately sharp images or low-resolution video recording.

equipment

This performance is designed solely for simple entertainment. The Allwinner A523 octa-core chip doesn’t offer much propulsion and its performance is roughly on par with the Amazon Fire 10. In PCMark we only achieved a score of 5300 – which is at the low end of our benchmarks. This is enough for surfing, simple games like solitaire or YouTube, but small pauses for reflection are always noticeable.

On the other hand, the memory configuration is quite good: 128 GB of internal memory with 4 GB of RAM is impressive. If necessary, the system adds 8 GB of internal memory as virtual RAM. Our test device offers Wi-Fi 6 for surfing home networks, which is really unusual for the price. There’s no LTE modem, but Blackview also offers a 4G model of the Tab 60. Bluetooth 5.2 is available for wireless headphones and other accessories.

The integrated stereo speakers sound good and are appropriate for the price of the device. USB-C 2.0 and a jack input (3.5 mm) are available as connections.

software

The Blackview interface runs Android 14 with Dock OS in software version 4. It’s only slightly different from Android. For example, you can create large folders for multiple apps. It has an app drawer and control is via gestures or classic Android icons. However, the security patch is out of date and dates back to June 2024. Regular updates are also not expected.

There is a certification available for Widevine Level 1. Unfortunately, it does not recognize Netflix, but only shows level 3 in the settings, with this streaming service, only SD resolution is possible. However, Amazon Prime, Magenta TV, and Disney+ also operate in HD resolution.

Battery

The battery offers a relatively small capacity of 5100 mAh. We only got 5 hours in the battery test, other cheap tablets last twice that long. A power adapter for charging with 10 W is included, but the charging process takes about 4 hours.

conclusion

If you are looking for the cheapest tablet under 100 euros, the Blackview Tab 60 is a good device. However, it does not provide full HD resolution, only HD. Additionally, Netflix unfortunately does not recognize the Widevine Level 1 certification in our testing, so only SD resolution is possible with the streaming service. Performance is limited to the minimum for simple entertainment. The workmanship seems extremely solid for the price. However, there is still a lot of room for improvement in terms of battery life.
