The Creative Pebble X Plus PC speakers offer an exceptional spherical design, RGB lighting, and a very compact subwoofer. This makes them ideal for desks and living rooms – right?
The Creative Pebble X Plus speakers are more than just another pair of PC speakers. With their compact circular design, support for a variety of audio sources, and a space-saving subwoofer, they stand out from the crowd. These speakers offer a good number of connection options, including USB-C, Bluetooth, and AUX, making them suitable for both PCs and mobile devices. Integrated RGB lighting provides a visual highlight that can be individually adjusted. Despite its small size, the Pebble X Plus aims to deliver powerful sound. Our testing shows whether it works.
Design and workmanship
The highlight of the Creative Pebble X Plus speakers is their circular design, which is not only unusual but also attractive. With a diameter of about 14 cm, they are slightly larger than their predecessors or the Pro models without subwoofer (test report) and provide a stable standing surface due to the rubberized bottom. The speaker’s RGB lighting can be controlled through the app or directly on the device and provides a nice accent. The light does not shine downwards onto the table like other pebbles, but instead provides a colorful, lateral grid on the sides of the balls. Like other Pebbles, it has a main box with some adjustment buttons as well as an output for a headset with a jack plug. The passive membranes on the back of the Pro model are not available on the Pebbles X Plus.
The subwoofer is a compact cube with a side length of just 16 cm and a weight of 1.7 kg. This means that both satellite speakers are not the smallest. Unlike ball boxes, which are made of plastic, the compact subwoofer is made of MDF for better stability and against vibration and oscillation. It is well built and fits seamlessly into the overall picture – except that it is a cuboid and not a sphere. Exciting: While the 3.5-inch drivers are directed towards the front, the sub has a passive membrane on both sides, which also has a visible stroke when operating at a certain power level. There are no setting options at all, and RGB lighting is missing here too.
The Creative Pebble A power adapter is not included, but it is recommended to use the full power of the speaker. Then the Pebble X Plus offers a total output of 30 watts RMS, 15 of which are for the sub. Theoretically, a USB C connection to a laptop or computer is enough, but then the system performance is halved. The speakers are hard-wired together, which limits placement flexibility somewhat. At least the cables should be long enough to be comfortably positioned on the desk. This also applies to everything from cables to subwoofers.

The Pebble It allows easy connection to PCs, mobile devices, gaming consoles and more. Control is via controls on the right speaker, including volume, RGB lighting, and input modes. An app for Windows apparently previously offered additional setting options, including an equalizer and different sound profiles. However, at the time of testing, you could only set different modes for RGB lighting, which makes the app largely redundant.
sound
The sound quality of the Creative Pebble X Plus is amazing, especially considering its compact size. The speakers provide fairly clear and detailed reproduction of highs and mids, while the subwoofer ensures a good bass foundation. It was the latter that was missing from the Pebble Pro (test report). On paper, the frequency response ranges from 45 Hz to 20 kHz, which is impressive for a system of this size. In fact, the highs are a bit exaggerated for us, resulting in slightly hissing S sounds when singing. This is particularly noticeable when the listener is seated exactly in the stereo triangle and the speaker balls are aimed directly at the user’s head due to their slight upward tilt. If the light is not illuminated directly, but rather you listen slightly to the side, these exaggerations are no longer noticeable. However, the stage is then much smaller and less three-dimensional. At maximum volume, treble exaggeration increases slightly, but distortion is limited.
The bass is surprisingly powerful for the subwoofer’s small size. Above 60Hz it delivers a full sound without being too present. The level then drops significantly above 60 Hz and becomes negligible above 50 Hz. This also explains why deep bass hits are lost in music – the Pebble X Plus is not for hip hop. When it comes to volume, the unusual trio of spherical speakers and mini sub performs well, but not top-tier. Using a fairly powerful PD-USB power supply (list of the best) connected to the right of the two USB-C ports on the main box, the volume is well above room volume, but without it it remains audibly quiet. The Pebble X Plus is therefore only partially suitable for parties.
