Apple is again allowing pirated software in the App Store

Apple’s in-house controls department actually ensures that applications distributed through the respective device App Store do not create any security holes or do anything illegal. For this, the developers, among other things, pay a commission of up to 30 percent to the iPhone manufacturer. But in the past, some things slipped through the so-called app reviews. Now once again such a case has come to light.

In form of Report by IT news site The VergeA “productivity app” called Univar Notes, which reportedly allows you to “save all the day’s events and plan your time”, was found to have provided illegal streaming routines. However, thanks to Geoswitch, the function could only be activated in countries outside the United States, including Canada, the Netherlands, and France. Among other things, “Joker”, “Venom: The Last Dance” and the second part of “Terrifier 3” can be found. The target group was obviously French-speaking people, so the options within the app were labeled accordingly and the movies played with French subtitles.

Following a request from The Verge, to which Apple initially did not respond, the “Universe Note” was removed after a few days. The application had previously reached high positions in the App Store charts – after the information spread it was now number 1 on the US hit list of free iPad apps. On Android, an app of the same name exists on GitHub and as an APK – it was initially unclear whether it was the same program.

This is not the first time that Apple has let a pirated app go through App Review. In August, an application was distributed that could reload related code without being determined in advance by Apple. React Native was used for this purpose.

With “Universe Note”, Apple would have found the real meaning of the app more easily if the reviews for the app were from other regions. However, due to the lack of a statement, it is unclear why exactly the app was able to slip through. Recently, an app with piracy content has also made its way into the App Store as an eye testing deviceApple pulled it from the App Store shortly after press reports surfaced – similar to “Universe Note”.
