Moranto HY4866-WF air purifier in test: Compatible with Tuya and Home Assistant

Air purifiers (list of the best) like the Philips AC3033/10 (test report) filter fine dust, pollen, odors and viruses from the air and thus contribute to a healthy living environment. With a clean air delivery rate (CADR) of 300 m³/h, the manufacturer recommends it for room sizes up to 100 m².

The Moranto HY4866-WF can’t keep up with our current No. 1, Philips air purifier Philips AC3033/10 (test report). While the AC3033 offers a clean air delivery rate (CADR) of 520 m³/h, the Moranto HY4866-WF only manages a CADR of 300 m³/h. Therefore, according to the manufacturer, it is only recommended for rooms up to 100 square meters, while the AC3033 is suitable for rooms up to 135 square meters. However, the room sizes recommended by manufacturers are only a rough guide. Therefore interested parties should pay attention to the cleaning performance measured in CADR. But this also has to be kept in perspective: because it is tested with the maximum fan level of the devices, which due to its high volume is only chosen by most users in an emergency. Automatic and night modes are used more often.

The Moranto HY4866-WF is relatively compact with dimensions of 19.4 × 33.5 × 44.5 cm. And with a weight of only 3.6 kg it is easy to carry. This also works well as there is an indentation on the back of the white housing making the device easy to carry. Just below is an opening for the fine dust sensor, which measures PM2.5-sized particles.

The air purifier shows the values ​​of the fine dust sensor on the front on a 7 cm high and 3.5 cm wide display. Air quality is indicated by a colored LED strip running around the display. It also shows the remaining life of the filters, which are located behind air-permeable covers on the front and back of the device.

The air purifier blows the cleaned air upward through the filter. The control buttons are located on a gray, air-permeable cover. It allows users to turn the device on and off, set different modes, view remaining filter time, set timers, and activate parental controls. But you can do all this with an app also. Operation is extremely easy with the app and with the controls on top. There are soft switches for each function, clearly marked with different symbols for each purpose. You don’t need to consult the German-language manual that comes with it.

The particle sensor installed in the Moranto HY4866-WF reacts instantly to the increasing proportion of fine dust in the air. In testing, we increased the concentration of fine dust from about 5 μg/m³ to more than 300 μg/m³ using a diffuser and an essential oil. In automatic mode, the air purifier reacts instantly to an increased concentration of fine dust and increases the fan speed accordingly.

There is no problem with cleaning performance. After seven minutes at the highest fan level, the Moranto HY4866-WF reduced the amount of fine dust in an approximately 11 square meter room from 100 μg/m³ to 5 μg/m³. Even without using an air purifier, the amount of fine dust is more than 60 μg/m³ after six minutes. We verified the values ​​measured by the air purifier with room air sensors (best list) Aware Element and Air-Q Pro. The fine dust sensor in Moranto HY4866-WF works very accurately.

It’s also useful that when a particularly quiet sleep mode is activated, the display lighting on the device turns off. However, the small LEDs on the control switches can be annoying in dark environments, such as a bedroom. However, the flashing LED on the on-off switch is definitely off when the air purifier is off.

As already mentioned, the air purifier shows the air quality on a display in the form of a surrounding LED strip based on the measured PM2.5 values. When the concentration of fine dust is between 0 and 75 μg/m³ it burns green, when the concentration of PM2.5 is between 76 and 150 μg/m³ it burns yellow and when it is above 150 If it exceeds μg/m³ it burns red. In night mode, the Moranto HY4866-WF is barely audible at a measured 24 dB. But it doesn’t work as quietly as the Philips AC3033 or Xiaomi Air Purifier 4. So if you want to install an air purifier in your bedroom, you will find cool options with Philips and Xiaomi.

Except for sleep mode, which is relatively quiet at 24 dB, you can clearly hear the Moranto HY4866-WF at work. In a large office, a fan level 1F with 32 dB may still be generally accepted. However, operating modes 2F, 3F and 4F with volumes of 41 dB, 49 dB and 55 dB are probably too loud for most people. But this device is no different from other air purifiers.

Moranto HY4866-WF is suitable for smart home users. The manufacturer recommends the Havaworks app for operation. Since this is only an OEM version of the Tuya app, users can also use the original to use the Morento HY4866 in combination with other Tuya smart home components like presence and motion detectors (Best list) for automation.

Since Home Assistant provides integration for Tuya devices, users can also use the Moranto HY4866-WF for automation under the most popular open source home automation solutions. However, Home Assistant does not allow you to select a specific operating mode, but can only turn the device on and off. The fine dust concentration and remaining filter time are also displayed within the Home Assistant.

You can also control the air purifier by voice through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant.

The manufacturer gives the Moranto HY4866-WF air purifier a list price of 190 euros. But at the moment you don’t need to pay that much, because the device currently costs only 150 euros. Moranto HY4866-WF provides good purification performance that reaches the level of other air purifiers with similar CADR value. Due to its compact dimensions and low weight, it not only occupies small spaces but can also be easily transported when needed.

Operation is easy, whether from the app or directly on the device. And thanks to Tuya support, it’s also available for automation. Apart from selecting the operating mode, it also works with the home assistant.

In sleep mode, the fan spins very slowly and is relatively quiet with only 24 dB of operating noise. Nevertheless, other models, notably our test winner Philips AC3033/10 (test report), are even quieter at less than 20 dB and are therefore more suitable for use in the bedroom than the Moranto.

However, the classification of air quality into good, moderate and poor is overly optimistic. Here, Morento must follow currently valid limit values ​​and use them to classify air quality. And the flashing LED doesn’t even have to be there when the device is turned off.
