After we were able to test the extraordinary LG The compact Bluetooth speaker scores points because of its sturdy build, powerful sound, and long battery life. Our testing shows whether it delivers on its promise.

LG Xboom Go DXG7Q has been introduced in the classic bar format. With dimensions of approximately 26 x 10 x 10 cm and a weight of 1.1 kg, it is still compact and light enough to fit comfortably in a backpack – perfect for mobile use outdoors.

The case is mostly covered in strong black mesh fabric. The edges are protected by a sturdy plastic frame. It is available in black or brown and gives a high-quality look to the speaker. On the sides are two large passive radiators, surrounded by colored LED strips. These create an atmospheric ambiance and can be customized using the app.

The controls are located on a gray plastic strip at the top. Luckily, physical keys with obvious pressure points are used here – no capacitive touch surfaces. In addition to the usual buttons for volume, play/pause, and Bluetooth, there’s also a button for “Sound Boost” mode. However, you won’t get a backlight.

On the back, a solid rubber cover protects the connections from moisture and dirt. Here you’ll find a USB-C port for charging, a 3.5mm jack connection for wired players, and a USB-A port that can be used to power smartphones etc. – practical! Rubber feet on the bottom ensure a secure stand.

Overall, the LG Xboom Go DXG7Q makes a very solid and high-quality impression. With IP67, it is completely dustproof and can even be accidentally dropped in water without getting damaged. It is therefore ideally equipped for outdoor use.

A midrange driver, a track woofer and a dome tweet supported by two passive radiators are responsible for the sound in the LG Xboom Go DXG7Q. With a total output of 40 watts, the Korean manufacturer promises a powerful sound.

And indeed: the compact Bluetooth speaker surprised us in testing with a surprisingly powerful and bass-heavy sound. Especially considering its small size, the bass plays extremely powerfully and accurately. Even maximum volume can be heard – the DXG7Q can easily fill an entire room or garden with sound at barbecue parties. Even at high levels, sound distortion remains relatively low.

The LG speaker highlights some weaknesses in the mids and highs. There is a slight lack of clarity and brilliance here; In complex pieces with multiple instruments, the heights sometimes sound a bit blurry and tinny. The voices sometimes even whisper.

With the “Sound Boost” function and equalizer in the app, the sound can be effectively customized according to your own taste and style of music. The speaker is particularly suitable for bass-heavy genres like electro, hip-hop and dancehall. However, if you mainly listen to classical music or jazz, it is better to choose more neutral-sounding options.

The LG The built-in microphones also enable a useful hands-free function, although the second person in the test complained about a slight echo.

The bottom line is that the LG Xboom Go DXG7Q offers good sound for such a compact and affordable Bluetooth speaker. Only a few competitors are able to surpass it in terms of depth and power. However, it is less suitable for audiophile listeners due to the slightly weak treble.

LG Xboom Go DXG7Q can be easily paired with smartphones, tablets etc. via Bluetooth 5.1. The range is usually 10 to 12 meters, within which the connection remains stable. Other current speakers now rely on Bluetooth 5.2 or even 5.3, but LG is a bit behind here.

The Xboom app is clearly structured and offers many useful functions. The 6-band equalizer is central, with which you can adjust the sound to your liking. There are preset EQ profiles for users in a hurry.

The LED lighting of the two passive radiators can also be controlled via the app. In addition to some ready-made lighting animations, you can also set your own color combinations and effects.

You can use the app to pair two DXG7Q speakers for true stereo sound. Unfortunately, other LG models cannot be connected.

A nice addition is the integrated sleep timer function. Here you can set a time after which the speaker turns off automatically. This is practical if you want to listen to some music or podcasts while sleeping. The lights gradually dim so you can sleep comfortably.

In terms of operation and functionality, we have no complaints with the LG Xboom Go DXG7Q. The app offers many useful additional features without appearing overloaded.

With a 3900 mAh battery, the mobile Bluetooth speaker is equipped for long lasting listening enjoyment. LG promises up to 24 hours of playback time – a value that hardly any other speaker in this size and price range achieves.

If necessary, you can also provide new energy to smartphones and tablets through the USB-A port. This means that an empty iPhone battery can be fully charged once. This is practical if you don’t have a power supply at hand when traveling.

The speaker is charged via a USB-C port. However, a suitable power supply is not included. Unfortunately, a full charge takes quite a long time, you’ll have to plan on a good five hours. There is no quick charging function. It’s a shame, we would have liked a little more pace here.

We liked the LG Xboom Go DXG7Q in testing. It combines powerful sound, long battery life, sturdy workmanship and extra features in a compact housing. Subtle LED lighting makes it eye-catching. Small weaknesses such as long loading times, static design, only Bluetooth 5.1 or not quite perfect detail resolution in the high and mid-range are easy to overcome given the low price.
