IBM had Zynga Report from Ars Technica According to him, the patent infringement case was brought to our attention in 2014. But Zynga decided not to enter into a patent agreement with IBM. Other big tech companies made different decisions, as a court document shows: Facebook, Amazon, Apple and Google have concluded patent agreements with IBM.
The patents IBM is objecting to include, among other things, descriptions of the management of applications and advertising in interactive services and performance optimization in online services. According to IBM, license agreements on these patents finance today’s new development.
According to Ars Technica, IBM’s patents have already led to several court cases – among other things, the IT company also dealt with companies known at the time as Twitter and Amazon. Both companies eventually agreed on a patent settlement with IBM.
Zynga intends to file an appeal
Zynga is a mobile game developer whose portfolio includes the “FarmVille” series. Many Zynga games are available in the browser or on websites such as Facebook. At its peak in the early 2010s, “FarmVille” had 80 million daily users. In 2022, US publisher Take-Two purchased Zynga for $12.7 billion.
Zynga intends to appeal IBM’s decision. “This conclusion is not supported by the facts or the law,” the company wrote in a filing to the US Securities and Exchange Commission. The games’ continued operation is not threatened by this decision.
