AirPods cleaning kit: Belkin helps with chemical cleaning

Since Apple’s AirPods are known for getting stuck in your ears while being used, they also get dirty quickly: dandruff, “earwax” and sweat end up on the earphones or earplugs. In keeping with yesterday’s release of the AirPods 4, which are now also available as a model with active noise cancellation (ANC) on request, Apple has introduced another AirPods product in its European online store: an “official” cleaning kit for their devices. It comes from Belkin, a subsidiary of main iPhone manufacturer Foxconn.

Evolution in cleaning AirPods

The “Belkin AirPods Cleaning Set” is the second cleaning series for AirPods that Belkin brings to the market through Apple. A slightly different version already existed about two years ago, which included, among other things, an “earwax remover”. The price has not changed: from then to now, 15 euros (or 15 US dollars plus sales tax) are payable. However, Belkin has changed the contents of the cleaning set. It now includes two bottles (“1” and “2”), a cloth and a newly designed cleaning tool.

The set is compatible with AirPods 4 (with and without ANC), AirPods Pro 2, AirPods Pro 2 (all variants) and AirPods 3 (all variants). Belkin does not provide a warranty for older AirPods. While the old cleaning set contained a small amount of material and the supplied “cleaning gel” could not be resealed, the revised version is now said to be suitable “for multiple cleanings”. However, the Apple online store does not provide any information on the number of cleaning procedures, nor is the amount of liquid specified.

According to Apple, the exact contents of the cleaning kit are a cleaning brush, a cleaning liquid (bottle 1), deionized water (bottle 2) and a microfiber cloth. Belkin emphasizes that you should follow the included cleaning instructions.

However, they are currently only available on Belkin’s website Information about older variants to find. The manufacturer emphasizes that it can only be used for AirPods 1 to 3. It is currently sold out at Belkin itself, but individual retailers in Germany still have it in stock, some for less than 10 euros.
