Apple is reportedly working on a cheaper keyboard for the iPad. After the company introduced a revised Magic Keyboard made of more robust aluminium in May, a successor to the Smart Keyboard Folio is now apparently set to be revealed. However, it is only meant for the cheaper Apple tablet, says a report. Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman reports,

Cheaper, but also with cheaper components
Apple’s suppliers are currently working on a new iPad keyboard for next year. “This accessory is a low-end version that could be designed for the entry-level iPad or the new iPad Air,” Gurman said. More expensive components such as a metal palm rest are not planned, but other new functions are planned, “perhaps a function key bar.”
But anyone who hoped the device would be on sale soon will be disappointed: it is planned for mid-2025, “if everything goes according to plan”. It is unclear why Apple is taking so long – new iPad Air models with the M2 SoC were also released in the spring. However, it can be assumed that Apple will release a new entry-level iPad by then. Gurman has not heard any pricing yet.

Orientation towards the Magic Keyboard Folio or a completely new design?
Apple sells the Magic Keyboard for the iPad Pro M4 From 349 euros for 11-inch devicesThe 13-inch version costs just 399 euros. The version compatible with the iPad Air comes with the same price levels. That alone is cheaper Magic Keyboard Folio As for the 10th generation iPad, it is sold by Apple for 299 euros. Its functionality differs from that of the Magic Keyboard: among other things, there is a kickstand on the back and the structure of the keyboard is simpler overall.
Gurman did not say whether Apple’s new iPad keyboard is based on the Magic Keyboard Folio or has a completely different structure. At the moment there is speculation that Apple may update at least the iPad mini this year. The company has not yet sold any keyboards for this purpose – apparently due to the small size of the tablet. Here you will have to use accessories from the accessories store.
