Apple is apparently planning to add more RAM to the iPhone — though not until next year. That’s the claim of Ming-Chi Kuo, a typically knowledgeable analyst at TF International Securities in Taiwan. In an X-posting last week, he wrote that Apple would do so iPhone 17 Pro Max, expected to arrive in September 2025Specially equipped. It also includes a large main memory.

More money, more RAM
Apple currently only installs 8 GB of RAM in its Pro models. With the iPhone 16, which will be presented on September 9, the standard models could also reach this value for the first time, as Apple intelligence cannot manage with the 6 GB currently used. According to Kuo, 12 GB is now planned for the iPhone 17 Pro Max. However, this expansion level is reserved only for this model. The iPhone 17, 17 Pro and especially the thin new iPhone 17 Slim and Air will continue to get 8 GB. The same probably applies to the iPhone SE 4, which is expected to arrive in spring 2025.
According to Kuo, 4 GB should also lead to “better on-device AI capabilities”, which will then become a “key selling point” for the top model. Apple always sells the Pro Max model at the most expensive price of all new iPhones. The manufacturer currently prices the smallest model at a minimum of 1,449 euros. In the maximum configuration (with 1 TByte) you pay 1949 euros. (Prices are cheaper in stores.)

More Extra Sausage with the 17 Pro Max
Kuo also mentions other technical details that will reportedly only be available on the iPhone 17 Pro Max. This includes an improved cooling system that combines vapor chamber technology with a graphite layer. The hardware should not get too hot even with complex applications such as games or on-device AI.
The analyst further added that Apple will continue its strategy of adding all new functions only to the top model. “The differentiation strategy of reserving the best specifications (apart from a larger display than the Pro) for the Pro Max is expected to continue,” Kuo adds. The Pro Max is said to currently account for about 40 percent of all units sold. It therefore contributes significantly to sales and profits.
